Abt Gives for the Holiday Season

Friday, January 14th, 2011
During the Holiday Season, we here at Abt like to spread holiday cheer.  One way is through our Outreach Program.  In our 10th year, during last few months of the year, employees help raise money through various activities, including bake sales, raffles, and employee jeans days.
After the money is collected, gifts are chosen and wrapped.  A  few representatives from Abt, including Santa himself, bring over the gifts and food to make the holiday season a bit easier for those in need.  Everyone was grateful and it really is a pleasure, every year, to provide a little extra joy.

Holiday Pastry Creations

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

The smell of ginger, cinnamon, peppermint or sugar cookies baking in the oven bring back memories of Christmas when I was younger. Make some of your own holiday memories this season through the art of pastry making. From making gingerbread cookies, to rugelach, Abt’s Gourmet shop has exactly what you need. Choose from different stand mixers, to blenders and even cooking utensils.  Below is a recipe for gingerbread cookies I made a few weeks ago.

3 cups all purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoon of ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ cup of unsalted butter
½ cup molasses
½ cup packed sugar
¼ cup water
1 small egg
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Sift the flour, baking powder, ginger, cloves and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
2. In another bowl, mix butter, molasses, brown sugar, water, egg and vanilla until smooth.
3. Slowly add both bowls together until they are completely absorbed. Once pliable, split dough into thirds. Wrap each in plastic wrap and put in fridge for at least 2 hours.  You can even leave it overnight.
4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. While the oven is prepping, roll out the dough into ¼ thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Place each cookie 1 inch apart onto a cookie sheet. Use a little pan spray to lubricate.
5. Bake for 10-12 minutes in the oven. When cookies are finished, remove and set cookies onto wire racks to cool. When fully cooled, you can add icing however you wish.
6. Enjoy!

Holiday Shopping Forecast

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

According to the Consumer Electronics Association, that while all around holiday-gift shopping sales might drop this year approximately 2% per person, the purchasing of consumer electronics is expected to rise by 5% per person.

Could this prediction come from the new releases of exciting items such as iPads and 3D TVs?  Perhaps. What do you think?

Register for Your Special Event At Abt!

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

It’s almost summer and love is in the air. Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and brides are registering. Abt is the premiere destination for anything in the home, from TVs to cool electronics to appliances for all budgets.

Instead of registering for the standard china and silver every bride registers for, check out the bridal registry at Abt or on Abt.com. Register for things you will use every day, like a new LED TV or Energy Star appliance.

It’s not all about electronics and appliances at Abt. There is a gourmet shop full of incredible products like Le Creuset, small appliances like stand mixers and food processors. Abt also has a Time Watch Boutique with watches and Tumi wallets and tote bags—perfect for a honeymoon!

Abt’s registry isn’t just for brides and grooms. If you are celebrating a special occasion, housewarming, holiday, or anniversary, register at Abt. It’s easy and our award winning customer service specialists are available everyday in the showroom, on the phone, or available via web-based live chat.

Dressing in Denim For A Great Cause

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Abt has a special fundraiser today and the following two Fridays. All Abt employees may wear jeans to work for a five dollar donation per Friday. The money goes to an excellent cause. We are raising money to assist those who can’t provide for their families this holiday season.

According to Abt employee Shirley H., “We have Less than four weeks to raise the money to help families who can not provide for their families this holiday season. We will be delivering clothes, toys, and a complete holiday dinner including desserts Prepared by Jolane’s to their homes.”

Shirley went on to say, “We will also try to host [a] bake sale and [we] are currently working on a raffle.” We are hoping to provide for at least 10 families this holiday season.
