CES 2024: The LG Signature OLED T TV

As we begin day two of CES 2024, our Abt team is exploring the LG booth to learn more about their newest and hottest releases. While the LG brand is quite versatile, selling both appliances and electronics, they’ve been in the TV game for over 60 years. In fact, they’re the world’s second-largest TV manufacturer. So it’s no surprise that their latest TV showcases some of the coolest and most surprising technology yet. It’s the LG Signature OLED T TV, a transparent wireless television. Yes, you read that right.

The LG OLED T is not the first transparent television to make an appearance at CES. We’ve covered the transparent Samsung MicroLED TV that also debuted this year! But it seems like this revolutionary transparent LG entertainment might be the first to hit the market for customers. The product is a CES Innovation Awards 2024 Honoree and it also won the 2024 CES Award for Best of Innovation. In an official press release for the LG OLED T, LG President Park Hyoung-sei had this to say:

“An incredible feat of consumer-driven innovation, LG Signature OLED T offers brand-new screen experiences, plus the picture quality and performance of our award-winning OLED technology. LG’s transparent OLED gives customers greater freedom to curate their living spaces, completely redefining what’s possible and pointing the way to an exciting future for the television industry.”

At this point, you may be wondering how this technology is even possible. Why would you want to be able to see through your favorite TV shows and movies? Keep reading to learn more.

How Does The LG OLED T Work?

The LG OLED T features a 77-inch display with 4K resolution. It’s powered by LG’s new Alpha 11 AI processor, offering performance that’s four times greater than the previous generation. This processor provides 30% faster processing speeds and 70% greater graphics performance. The TV also has down-firing speakers located beneath the dual display for dynamic audio. Ultimately, there are two ways to use this TV. Behind the transparent panel is what LG calls a contrast film, or a black screen. When the black screen is up, the LG OLED T functions like a normal OLED TV, providing stunning visuals and superior picture quality. With just a push of a button on the remote though, you can lower the contrast film to enjoy a completely transparent display. This spatial design allows you to expand the possibilities of your living space and see what’s behind your screen at all times. Upon release, the LG OLED T will come in wall-mounted, standalone and against-the-wall options.

Enjoy Extra Advanced Technology

The LG OLED T runs a custom webOS interface that’s been optimized for this unique display style. While it is a transparent TV, you’ll also find what LG calls a T-Bar at the lower section of the screen. The T-Bar features custom widgets that can provide weather and news updates, song titles and more. This small banner at the bottom of your display is meant to reduce onscreen clutter. The LG OLED-T also shares a big similarity with the LG M3 TV series (also covered here on The Bolt). Both are wireless! All of the TV’s audio and video content is received from the LG Zero Connect Box. You can place the box as far as 30 feet away from your screen and you can even use it to connect external devices like Blu-ray players and gaming consoles.
