The New Apple TV

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Hi, today I want to talk about the newest version of the Apple TV.

I have an old 40GB version and it has been very enjoyable over the years. The biggest news with the new one is that it has no storage and is streaming only. No worries about the hard drive crashing. The other plus is the Netflix capability.  If you are a Netflix subscriber, you will now be able to stream from the Apple TV to your TV, with just a simple HDMI connection.  The new product still gives you the ability to stream music and movies from your iTunes library, as well as photos, if you use iPhoto. You can also control Apple TV with an iPhone or iPod Touch and the Remote app which turns your Touch into a powerful, and reasonably priced, way to do multi-room audio.  Apple will also be coming out with an update that will allow you to stream whatever is on your phone or Ipod touch to the Apple TV.

We are now taking pre-orders for this product. I, for one, am on that list.

Back in Black, Sonos S5 Zone Player, Available Now at Abt

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

The Sonos S5 Zone player has arrived, until now, it was only available in white…Today, it’s back in black. The S5 Zone player is an innovative wireless speaker system that works with iPhone and iPod Touch technologies.

The S5 gives you complete freedom to listen to music in any room of your home. With one S5 you can listen to music in one room, with multiple players, you can connect them wirelessly and have the same music play in each room—if you would like different music in each room, the Zone player can do that too.

The features on the S5 are endless. Aside from its one touch set up, control it with the technology you already have in your pocket. Use an iPhone or iPod Touch as your remote after downloading a free app. If you don’t have an iPhone or iPod Touch, get the touch-screen Sonos Controller 200. Sonos’ S5 will play your entire iTunes library, internet radio stations, even music from a CD player in your home. After you register the S5 it will automatically alert you to software updates, with the touch of one button, your system updated and better than new.

Web Customer Service Top Picks

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Have you ever called Abt’s toll-free number? Then you have most likely talked with one of Abt’s web customer service specialists. Headed up by Carmen, an Abt employee for 14 years, the web customer service department takes care of both local and out-of-state customers on the phone, over email, and on the internet via web-based live chat.

Get to know web customer service specialists a little better; here are their favorite Abt products:

Christina loves the Mac Book Pro. “There are so many cool features like iMovie and Photo Booth. This computer is so easy to use and has a long battery life. It’s even got a sleek design, much better looking than other laptops.”

Neil had a hard time choosing his favorite product. First he thought it was our wide variety of batteries. He said, “Who doesn’t need a battery?” But after much thought, he decided that the Soda Stream starter kit would be the one he liked the most. “How cool is it that you can make your own soft drinks? It’s easy and fun for the whole family. Soda Stream eliminates the need to ever run to the store for soda. It’s less expensive than traditional soft drinks and it’s better for the environment.”

Tamar’s favorite product is the iPod Nano, “I like this item because I have the ability to listen to music as well as take pictures. It gives me the option to eliminate carrying different electronics. I can listen to the radio, too. This unit even tells me the song title and artist that I am listening to. The screens clarity is excellent as well.”

Joanna is a food enthusiast, she told me, “The Cuisinart Electric Sandwich Grill is the perfect product for me. It’s easy, quick, and the outcome is always delectable.”

Kate can’t live without the Dyson DC14ALLFLOOR. “I have a new toddler on the move and it easily moves from carpet to hardwood floors. It is easy to use, picks up everything and makes cleaning it a breeze.”

Joce, the frequent traveler, loves the VHoldR Contour HD, “It’s an awesome camcorder. It is great for my adventurers; I call it the no worries camcorder. Rain or Shine I am covered. Plus, there are additional mounts to fit my needs.”

Traci, the camera lover of the department shoots with the Nikon D 5000. “It’s easy to use, takes great pictures, and awesome video.”

Carmen’s favorite item isn’t a current item on the web site, it’s the iPod Touch 2nd Generation. “I purchased it for my son Andrew, and we both use it all the time. We can toggle through each other’s music and the ease of accessing my email account is a bonus. Luckily, my son doesn’t mind that I use it, and by now I should have purchased my own, but I was procrastinating fearing a new and improved iPod would be released. I’m glad I waited because I am hoping to purchase an Apple with new technology this year.”

Next time you speak with one of the web customer service specialists, you will know a little more about them.

Sonos S5 Freedom

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

The Sonos S5 Zone player has arrived. This is a really cool innovation from Sonos. It’s a wireless, one-piece speaker system that works with an iPhone or iPod Touch. Unlike most docking stations, the S5 doesn’t require the iPhone or iPod Touch to be docked in the unit itself.

Sonos took speaker systems to another level with the S5. Controlling the S5 is done from your iPhone or iPod Touch using a downloadable, free app. Set-up is a breeze; all you have to do is search for the new speaker on your iPhone or iPod Touch, press two buttons on the S5, and you are ready to go. By having multiple S5 speaker systems you can play different songs in different rooms or using party mode—play the same song in different rooms.

The S5 gives you the freedom of keeping your iPhone or iPod Touch with you instead of docking it. You can browse through 25,000 free internet stations, millions of songs streaming on the internet, or your entire iTunes library—not just what is stored on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Also, if you receive a text or incoming call while music is playing, it won’t interrupt the music.

Summer Cools off, Apple Heats Up!!!

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Apple’s new iPods are out today and if you have been watching or reading about them you know Touch has new features, and so does Nano, Classic, and Shuffle too.

Selling over 20 million, iPod Touch is Apple’s fastest growing product… New to the third generation Touch, Ubisoft is developing games specifically for the iPod. Apple dropped the price on the 8GB model, speculated to be around $229 to $199, it will be the most affordable access to the App. store. iPod Touch is priced at $199 for the 8GB, $299 for the 32GB, and $399 for the 64 GB. Touch is now equipped with OpenGL|ES 2.0—just like the iPhone 3GS.

iPod Classic and Shuffle only had a few upgrades, The Classic went from 120 to 160 GB, remaining at the same price–$249. Shuffle introduced five new colors and third-party head phones with the controls right on them.

The iPod Nano might have stolen the show today with the most improvements. Nano now has a digital video camera, (comparable to a Flip video camera) with a microphone. It also added an FM radio, and Genius mixes. Nano’s display grew from 1.8” to 2.2” and there is a built-in pedometer for Nike +. The 8GB is $149 and the 16GB is $179.
