Attention Windows users who are still rocking versions 7 or 8.1 on your PC, the deadline to take advantage of Microsoft’s free Windows 10 upgrade is rapidly approaching! Announced earlier this year, the promotional period will be ending this Friday. While it lasts, you’ll be able to upgrade to a full version of Windows 10 for absolutely free. Historically, these major upgrades usually cost upwards of $75, so this is a great opportunity to get in on the next generation of software for free.

Touted as a lighter, more efficient OS that previous versions, any computer that’s capable of running Windows 7 or 8.1 smoothly should have no problem with Windows 10, so you won’t have to worry about whether your machine can handle it. Just in case, the minimum requirements for Windows 10 include: a 1 GHz or faster CPU or SoC, 1 GB RAM and at least 16 GB of hard disk space (20 GB for the 64-bit version).

The newest software combines the best parts of both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. You’ll find the the Start Menu, task bar and icon-based desktop that were key to earlier versions of the OS, plus Windows 8’s most notable features, like Live Tiles and the digital assistant Cortana.
