TiVo and Samsung Make Renting DVDs Easier

TiVo revolutionized the electronics market in 1997 by making it optional to record from a TV onto a DVD. Again, today, TiVo is making life easier by eliminating the trip to the video store by teaming up with Blockbuster on-line. The new service offered by TiVo will make thousands of movies available to broadband connected TiVo subscribers.

TiVo users will be able to select and rent movies directly from Blockbuster On Demand; “classic” movies will be $2.99 and new-releases will cost $3.99. Simply navigating to the Video On Demand screen will bring users to the Blockbuster logo. By selecting the Blockbuster function, users will be able to see all of the content available to rent.

For now, Blockbusters will not be in Hi-Def. Over the next few weeks, Blockbuster On Demand will be adding new movies and some HD titles. For more information on Blockbuster on Demand TiVo has provided a website to answer some questions.

Blockbuster On Demand will also be available on new Samsung HDTVs, home theater systems, and Blu-ray players. Current owners of some Samsung LCD TVs (series 650), Plasma TVs (series 7000), and Blu-ray players will be able to access this feature after a firmware upgrade. Blockbuster will have a “preferred position” on Samsung’s Blu-ray interface. Blockbuster will also be featuring Samsung Blu-ray players in select stores and on Blockbuster.com.
