Spring cleaning season is here; after all, today is the first day of spring. A clean, fresh-smelling home is the perfect way to start the season and welcome the beginning of longer days and warmer weather. Whether you’re a new homeowner who doesn’t know where to start or you’re looking to upgrade your cleaning supplies, Abt is here to help. We’ve compiled our favorite cleaning hacks and top products to clean your home from top to bottom.

The Tips

If this is your first year tackling spring cleaning in your home, you may not know where to start. Have no fear: we’ve organized our top tips to ensure your home looks great in every crack and crevice. Tackle one task at a time and give yourself a few days to complete your spring cleaning so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Cleaning Your Kitchen Appliances

Our kitchen appliances get some of the most use out of any of our possessions; as such, it’s important to include them in your spring cleaning routine. Properly cleaning your fridge, microwave, oven and more are crucial to prevent odors and bacteria buildup while also potentially extending the lifespan of each product. Each appliance has its own unique cleaning challenges.

It’s best to take your appliances one at a time. The interior of your microwave probably needs a good scrub. You can wipe it down yourself or fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and vinegar to create steam inside to break down caked-on food mess. You should also wipe down the handle as well as the exterior of your microwave if it’s not a built-in model. Your refrigerator shelves and bins need a good scrub, too; be sure to take everything out of the fridge so you can clean every crevice. Avoid harsh cleaning products as you don’t want any residue near your food. If you have a gas cooktop, you’ll need to remove the grates and burner caps to properly clean each component as well as the surface of the cooktop.

Other appliances are easier to clean. Most ovens have a self-cleaning function that you can run while you manually clean other kitchen appliances. Dishwashers are also fairly easy to clean; there are cleaning pods you can set in the dish detergent compartment and run while the rest of the appliance is empty.

Cleaning Your Furniture

Your furniture is another place where dust, dirt and other irritants can live. Be sure to dust all your surfaces, especially in areas that might not get as much attention throughout the year. As for your floors, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping are a must to keep them clean and to extend their lifespan. Luckily, there are many products to help keep your floors clean so you don’t have to scrub on your hands and knees.

Cleaning Your Wearables

Sometimes just throwing your clothes in the wash isn’t enough, especially if there are other items you wear regularly but don’t wash. Now that the weather is getting warmer, it’s a great opportunity to wash your winter clothes and accessories or bring them to the dry cleaner. Even some shoes can go in the washer so they look and smell fresh for a new season.

The Products

Of course, some cleaning might require replacing old appliances or adding a new piece of equipment to your home. Luckily, Abt has just about everything you need to stay on top of your spring cleaning.

Vacuums

Your spring cleaning vacuuming should be extra thorough, covering not only your floors but also textiles throughout your home like curtains. The Dyson V10 Animal cordless vacuum is a top choice amongst Abt experts and customers alike. This vacuum cleaner is lightweight without sacrificing power. It can function as a traditional stick vacuum but can also transform into a handheld model to tackle surfaces like your sofa or the interior of your car. The cordless design makes this Dyson vacuum extra convenient so spring cleaning doesn’t have to feel like such a chore.

Of course, not everyone has the time or the mobility to push around a vacuum every day. That’s where robot vacuums come in. The Roomba J7+ by iRobot is one of our favorites and a classic for a reason: this little guy can clean your floors all day, whether you’re home or not. Pet hair, dust and dirt are no match for this small yet mighty robot vacuum. Instead of spending time vacuuming the floors in your home, set your Roomba to start from your smartphone and tackle another task on your spring cleaning checklist.

Air Purifiers

Of course, with spring comes allergy season. Plants are coming back to life and that means grass, pollen and pollutants are aplenty. Adding an air purifier in your home is a great way to keep these irritants at bay, not only keeping your home clean but also safeguarding your health. The Blueair Blue Pure 211+ is a popular choice with tons of great reviews thanks to its stylish color block finish, compact design and powerful  HEPASilent™ filtration technology, which ensures quieter operation with greater efficiency.
