Air Fryer Buffalo Wings

This week's recipe brings together our ongoing theme of healthier versions of your favorite foods, with our upcoming week's plans: prepping for the ultimate Big Game party. Contrary to popular belief, it's possible to fill your Sunday with tasty snacks that aren't terrible for you. A simple cooking tweak takes the star of bar menus across the country—the buffalo wing—and increases the health factor without losing out on taste.

To cook these wings, we used the Philips Viva Collection air fryer, which can make just about any food you'd normally fry, using hot air and little to no oil. Considered an air fryer in the past, but don't want to start a collection of specialized kitchen tools? The AirFryer can also bake, grill or roast foods, so you'll be able to get plenty of use out of it.

Chicken is a mainstay in most health-eating lifestyles, because it's high in protein, and easy to cook into a low-calorie, low-fat meal that still tastes great. There's nothing inherently bad about a buffalo wing...until you drop it into a deep fryer. So instead, we're going to air fry these wings. They'll still end up crispy and super-tasty, but you'll skip the added calories and fat that deep frying would add. You can eat them right out of the air fryer, dip them in something low-cal like Tabasco or Sriracha sauce, or, if you're not super concerned with cutting as many calories as possible, toss them in an easy custom wing sauce like the one in this recipe.

Yields2 Servings
Wings
 6 chicken wings
 pinch of salt
 pinch of pepper
Buffalo Sauce
  cup butter
½ cup franks red hot wing sauce
 1 tbsp white vinegar
 2 tsp garlic powder
1

Preheat the AirFryer to 360 Degrees.

2

Prep wings by cutting them in half, then season them with salt and pepper. Cook them until skin is browned—about 20 to 25 minutes—using tongs to turn the wings two or three times during cooking.

3

While the wings are cooking, you can make the sauce. Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat.

4

When melted, remove the saucepan from heat, add in the Frank’s, vinegar and garlic powder. Whisk until smooth.

5

When wings are finished cooking, toss them in the sauce, or serve them with your sauce of choice. And enjoy!
