Apple Crisp

Is there a food that says "fall" more than the apple? It finds its way into seemingly everything in the kitchen, from desserts to drinks. And of course, autumn is peak apple pie season. But as delicious as they are, pies can take a serious dedication of time, so we suggest this recipe for an apple crisp, instead. It's got all of the great things about apple pie—it's sweet and crunchy and crumbly—but it's easier to make and much harder to mess up. So grab some of your favorite type of apple, and make something sweet.

Filling
 6 large apples
 ½ cup sugar
 1 tbsp flour
 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Topping
 1 cup quick-cooking oatmeal
 1 cup flour
 1 cup brown sugar
 ¼ tsp baking soda
 ¼ tsp baking powder
 ½ cup melted, butter

Preheat your oven to 350° F

Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place peeled apples into the baking dish.

In a separate bowl mix together the dry filling ingredients: 1/2 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples, and mix to combine.

In a large bowl, combine the topping ingredients: 1 cup quick oats, 1 cup flour, 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 cup melted butter. Mix until crumbly.

Pour topping mixture over apples, even out.

Bake for 45 minutes.

Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream!
