Learn Some Home Tips With HGTV’s Monica Pedersen!

Next week, HGTV’s home design guru, Monica Pedersen will be signing copies of her latest book, “Make it Beautiful: Designs and Ideas for Entertaining at Home”, at the Kohler Store at the Design Center at Abt on Wednesday, July 18th 6-8pm.  Monica is known all around the Chicagoland area as an expert in home improvements.  As host of HGTV’s Designed to Sell, Monica Pedersen showcased neighborhoods all over Chicago in 90 episodes of her hit show.

Monica has put together a list of some excellent outdoor tips to help you get the most of the remaining summer!

Summer Tips:

Invest in an outdoor kitchen, (they are no longer just for the rich and famous.) Since many of us are designing our homes to stay, take advantage of the affordable outdoor kitchen vignettes on the market and add value to your home and to your life.

We all know how unpredictable Chicago weather can be! Always try to set up your table under a tree or a spot with access to some shade or shelter. And if rain is in the forecast make sure you have Plan B. Waiting too long to surrender to the weather can cause a lot of unnecessary drama! I know I have been there done that

Always have extra ice, bug repellent, candles and garbage bags for outdoor clean up.

If you are hosting a large group consider renting rather than buying additional party needs, like tables and chairs. If you have never rented, do it, it’s cheaper than you think! Halls Rental has super cute chairs for as little as $1.60 each.

3 yards of indoor / outdoor fabric makes for a great tablecloth for outdoor entertaining. The weight of the fabric keeps it from blowing around and is also easy to clean.

Those are just a few excellent things to think of when contemplating a redesign.  Hear about those and more when you meet Monica Pedersen next week at the Design Center at Abt!.  Guarantee your copy of the book and a signature from Monica herself by registering through the official registration form.  Hope to see you there!
