Hersey High School Students Tour Abt

Friday, a group of 10 Hersey High School special education students, accompanied by three of their teachers, spent the day at Abt. They are participants in a career track program Hersey offers to students who plan to begin working right after graduation or attend a two-year, career oriented school.

On the minds of many of these students is the culinary program at Harper College. Many of the student participants currently take food classes at Harper in hopes of having a food service career after program completion. The students’ day at Abt began at Jolane’s where they got a tour of the restaurant, got to set a table for lunch service, and eat their choice of chopped salad, grilled cheese and fries, or mini burgers and fries. Three of the students even took orders and entered them into the computer, to get some experience at using a restaurant point of service computer.
