Electronics devices like cellphones, laptops, computers, and tablets are built to last you a long time, but during their lifespan anything could happen. Important documents, family vacation photos, research papers can be lost and cannot be retrieved if your device is not backed up. Backing up your device is simply copying existing files onto a secondary device. Just in case anything happens, you can backup your files onto an external hard drive, flash drive, software or an online storage. It’s encouraged to backup your device frequently so your files are always up to date. Since we are beginning a new year, here’s a couple of steps on how you can backup your device. There are two ways you can back up your device:
1. Local Back Up
A local backup is transferring data to a separate type of media. Local back ups are best for those who favor backing up devices, especially for important files like financial documents. Local backups arranges ways for us to store important data at another location, this way your documents are safe and not in the wrong hands.
The Advantages:
- Backups and retrieving documents are fast and easy.
- Documents can be placed at an offsite location, safe and hassle-free.
2. Online Storage
Using online storage or a “cloud” makes it easy and convenient to access your documents. Documents stored in a cloud can be accessed anywhere and by many devices, it is also safe because the documents are secured at an online location that can be accessed by a password you create. Apple devices have iCloud to use for backups. Other devices can use OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive, and more.
The Advantages:
- It’s the most secure option and can be accessed anywhere.
- Automatic setting available to back up automatically in real time.
Getting Started
