The possible delay in the digital television (DTV) transition that we told you about a few days ago (see below) is now a reality, as the House of Representatives voted Wednesday to approve legislation that moves the analog TV cutoff date from February 17 to June 12. President Obama, who supported the delay, is expected to sign the bill into law.
Even though the legislation moves the official cutoff date, it still gives broadcasters the option to end their analog transmissions on the original February 17 transition date. It also allows households to reapply for converter box coupons if their original ones have expired, and sets aside more funds for DTV transition education and outreach.
Abt will continue to help educate any of our customers who still need to make the transition from analog to digital TV. You can click here to see our DTV Transition Guide, or click here for our selection of digital converter boxes. In addition, our knowledgeable sales staff will be glad to offer any assistance you need.
If you’d rather not wait for a coupon and would prefer to upgrade to a digital-ready television, we have a great selection of TVs with digital tuners (starting at $119) and flat panel HDTVs (starting at $165). Click here to see our full selection. —by Graham W.
