Day 2 at CES

After a pretty exhausting but exciting first day here at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, today presented the challenge of trying to see all the new products I missed yesterday. This is such an enormous show that it’s virtually impossible to see everything in one day, with 2,700 exhibitors covering more than 1.7 million square feet. To give you some idea of the number of people here (last year, more than 140,000 people attended), take a look at this shot of just one small section of the Las Vegas Convention Center:

One of the new products I was able to check out today was the world’s largest LCD TV. Made by Sharp, this 108-inch set will be coming out in the spring at a price of around $70,000.

Other interesting products I saw included Samsung’s Armani-designed handset featuring a full Internet browser, stereo Bluetooth, and a 3-megapixel camera. Mitsubishi introduced some new TV technology when it unveiled three 65-inch laser HDTVs, which the company hopes to bring out sometime this year.

On the late-breaking news front, Apple created some waves here today when it announced an updated Mac Pro computer and Xserve server, both of which are available with two super-fast Intel Xeon 5400 series quad-core processors. Apple does not have its new products here at the CES because it has its own Macworld Expo show next week in San Francisco. Check back here tomorrow for the latest news and updates from the CES. –by Jon Abt
