Today is National Chili Day, and you know what that means. With our chili recipe, it’s time to break out the stockpot (or our Cuisinart multicooker), gather your collection of spices (or just use a pre-made packet) and cozy up to one of the warmest, coziest foods you can find in late winter. That’s what our video team thinks, anyway, and why they created an easy-to-manage version of everyone’s favorite chili recipe. Catch our demonstration below!
1. Sauté onions until soft in a large stockpot
2. Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula as it heats
3. Once your beef is browned, add garlic and sauté until fragrant. (1 tablespoon at a minimum, but add more if you truly love your garlic)
4. Add tomato sauce, drained diced tomatoes, drained and lightly rinsed beans, and chili seasoning. Use a packet or go with fresh spices, which consist of:
* 1 tablespoon brown sugar
* 2 tablespoons chili powder
* 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
* 1 teaspoon cumin
* 1 teaspoon onion powder
* 1 teaspoon garlic powder
* 1 teaspoon black pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
5. Stir and get everything mixed. If it's looking too thick, add some water or beef broth in 1/2 cup increments. Be careful, it's easy to make it too watery. We recommend waiting until it simmers before adding liquid. The ingredients will sink to the bottom and the liquid will gather on top so you have a better look at whether or not you need more broth or water
6. Add red pepper flakes to taste - one tablespoon will give it a kick. Feel free to add your favorite hot sauce!
7. Simmer for 25 minutes, stirring frequently
8. Add the corn and mix
9. Add salt and pepper to taste
10. Serve in a bowl with your favorite toppings. We prefer sour cream and shredded cheese.
