Abt National Chili Day Recipe

Yields4 Servings

Chili Ingredients
 1 lb ground beef
 2 cans of tomato sauce
 2 cans of diced tomatoes - one with green chilies, drained
 2 cans of mixed beans, drained
 1 yellow onion, diced
 1 tbsp minced garlic (at least)
 Red pepper flakes (to taste)
 Sweet corn (frozen or canned), to taste
 1 Chili seasoning packetOr use the following fresh spices: 1 tablespoon brown sugar * 2 tablespoons chili powder * 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika * 1 teaspoon cumin * 1 teaspoon onion powder * 1 teaspoon garlic powder * 1 teaspoon black pepper * 1/2 teaspoon salt
 (Optional) Your favorite hot sauce
Topping
 Sour cream, to taste
 Shredded cheddar

1

1. Sauté onions until soft in a large stockpot
2. Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula as it heats
3. Once your beef is browned, add garlic and sauté until fragrant. (1 tablespoon at a minimum, but add more if you truly love your garlic)
4. Add tomato sauce, drained diced tomatoes, drained and lightly rinsed beans, and chili seasoning. Use a packet or go with fresh spices, which consist of:
* 1 tablespoon brown sugar
* 2 tablespoons chili powder
* 1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
* 1 teaspoon cumin
* 1 teaspoon onion powder
* 1 teaspoon garlic powder
* 1 teaspoon black pepper
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
5. Stir and get everything mixed. If it's looking too thick, add some water or beef broth in 1/2 cup increments. Be careful, it's easy to make it too watery. We recommend waiting until it simmers before adding liquid. The ingredients will sink to the bottom and the liquid will gather on top so you have a better look at whether or not you need more broth or water
6. Add red pepper flakes to taste - one tablespoon will give it a kick. Feel free to add your favorite hot sauce!
7. Simmer for 25 minutes, stirring frequently
8. Add the corn and mix
9. Add salt and pepper to taste
10. Serve in a bowl with your favorite toppings. We prefer sour cream and shredded cheese.
