CES 2020: Spotlight On Bendable Screens

The world of technology is always changing and evolving. Revolutionary products like flat screen TVs, smart assistants, and tablets have all had their stint as the “Next Big Thing”. This year at CES, one of the leading contenders for that title is bendable screens. With a number of companies rolling up to Las Vegas with their takes on that tech, it’s only a matter of time before consumers are going wild for these products.

For instance, we’ve seen two cellphones at the convention so far that offer different presentations of a foldable screen. First, there’s the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Introduced to the market last year, the device is able to fold open like a book to show off a 7.3 inch flexible display. But the newest model on display right now features 5G integration.

The second phone is more of a modern twist on an old classic. Lenovo has resurrected the Motorola Razr for a whole new generation. This Android-based model sports a foldable OLED screen with cinematic viewing and a zero-gap hinge that allows the phone to close perfectly flush. In the video, you can see the front-facing camera in action, plus the Retro Razr function that makes the screen look like the device that many 30-somethings know and love.

And finally, Cleer has unleashed a sleek and stylish smart speaker known as the Mirage, which utilizes the bendable screen made by Royole that can be seen in the first video in this post. Offering a 360 degree sound profile, a flexible 7.8 inch AMOLED display, and Alexa services built in, the Mirage delivers a unique departure from other smart speakers on the market today.

These are just a few of the ways that we’ve seen bendable screens integrated into devices that we already know and love. Without a doubt, we’ll see many more applications of this technology around the convention floor. But until then, what do you think about these products? Will you be picking any of these up when they become widely available? Let us know in the comments.
