Long battery life, powerful components, and a premium design could make the MSI PS63 Modern the new Macbook Pro killer.
While MSI is best-known for their PC components and gaming gear, they’ve recently set their sights on the high-end laptop market. We took a look at the new MSI PS63 Modern laptop, the latest entry to their Prestige Series of professional laptops. It packs a ton of performance into a svelte body, making it an excellent alternative to beloved ultrabooks like the Dell XPS 15 and Macbook Pro.
The first thing you’ll notice is the sleek, brushed aluminum chassis, which keeps the MSI PS63 Modern slim and light—it’s just under 16mm thin and weighs 1.6kg (3.5 lbs, but MSI has a “16” thing going with this model). Those are pretty impressive numbers for a 15.6′ display laptop. Inside, you’ll find up to an 8th gen Core i7 U-series CPU, the potential for two M.2 SSDs, a slew of ports (a Type-C and three Type-A USB3.1), and up to 16 hours (see?) of battery life. There’s a backlit keyboard (without the RGB lighting you might expect from MSI’s gaming products) and a nice-sized touchpad with integrated fingerprint reader.
MSI did not have pricing or availability information, but if it comes in at or around the price of the Dell or Mac offerings, it could become the new go-to for power users on the go.
