CES 2019: Lexar 1TB SDXC Card

We’ve seen prototypes at this size before, but this Lexar 1TB SDXC card will earn the title of “World’s First 1TB SD Card” when it hits the market early this year. The growth of high-megapixel cameras like the Sony A7RIII, and the march towards ultra-high-resolution displays like the 8K TVs we’ve seen at CES are both driving the need for larger-capacity cards. The Lexar 1TB SDXC card features:

  • Class 10 UHS-I (U3, V30) technology
  • Read transfer speeds of up to 95MB/s
  • Write speeds of up to 70MB/s

Since it’s not a UHS-II card, it probably won’t be the best choice for when speed is of the utmost importance. Those who shoot high bitrate 4K video or high fps raw photos would be better served by a faster, lower-capacity card. But when sheer storage size is all that matters, this Lexar is King. For now.

Fun fact: If you put this card into the original Canon Digital Rebel, a 6.3MP DSLR that debuted fifteen years ago, you’d be able to hold upwards of 400,000 photos on it.
