CES 2018: Casio G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000 Smartwatch

Casio G-Shock watches are known for their trend-setting style, their legendary durability, and their dedicated fanbase. Now, those fans will be able to enjoy that style and durability in a smartwatch. Casio’s first-ever G-Shock smartwatch, dubbed the G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000, is a feature-packed timepiece that will be at home both in the club and on the trail.

With a tagline like “Designed for the Ultimate in Survival Toughness,” the Casio G-Shock Rangeman is staking a lofty claim—but from what we saw of the feature set, it looks like it will deliver. Like other watches in the G-Shock Rangeman lineup, the GPR-B1000 includes the company’s Triple Sensor tech for measuring your bearing, altitude/atmospheric pressure, and the temperature. In addition to those functions, the GPR-B1000 is also the first G-Shock watch with GPS. Like a standalone hiking GPS, the GPR-B1000 plots your location while off-road, and can save waypoints so you can find your way back to camp. But perhaps the best feature of the GPR-B1000—supporting its claim of being a true survival watch—is the solar-assist feature. In addition to its wireless charging capability, the G-Shock Rangeman smartwatch can be recharged with the power of the sun. Pretty smart move by Casio that will give the GPR-B1000 a lot of cred with the survivalist market. There’s  a lot of tech packed into the GPR-B1000—which you can learn about in the video below—so it comes with a price. At $800, it’s not the cheapest GPS smartwatch on the market, but with the G-Shock pedigree, it’s bound to be a hot seller.
