Celebrating America Recycles Day

November 15th is America Recycles Day, a day dedicated to educating people on the importance of recycling, and motivating them to make it a regular part of their lives. While recycling seems like an easy concept, there are enough rules that it can get confusing—and that can be discouraging. America Recycles Day aims to take some of the mystery out of recycling to show the public just how easy it can be, and how far these simple tasks can go towards bettering the environment.

The Abt Recycling Center

On America Recycles Day, events will be taking place around the country offering various ways for the public to easily recycle things that might otherwise be difficult. You can use the recycling event finder to locate these events, which range from standard waste recycling drives, to specialized events dedicated to recycling things like old sports trophies or discarded six-pack plastic rings. Another great resource is Earth911’s recycling center search, which will help you find year-round spots to recycle everything from used motor oil to construction debris.

Recycling is an important part of our Green Program, and the reason for our dedicated on-site Recycling Center. Every year, our recycling center saves all of this from ending up in a landfill:

  • 2.2 million lbs of cardboard
  • 350,000 lbs of Styrofoam
  • 1.4 million lbs of old electronics
  • 13 million lbs of used appliances

Best of all, the Abt Recycling Center is open to the public. So if you couldn’t find an event on America Recycles Day, or you need to recycle some waste on a different day of the year, we’re hear to help. We will gladly accept all cardboard and Styrofoam waste, along with old electronics, computers, and small appliances. Most small electronics and appliances are accepted free of charge, but large TVs will incur a nominal charge that helps us cover the cost of the recycling process. You can find out more about the fees at the Abt Green Program page. We hope that you’ll make the effort to recycle on America Recycles Day—and every other day of the year.
