It’s no secret that Bowers & Wilkins is one of our favorite brands here at Abt. If you’ve ever visited out showroom, you’ve probably seen our dedicated B&W speaker gallery, or caught part of a movie in the David Abt theater’s 7.4 surround sound B&W speaker system. Their melding of high-performance audio technology and striking visual designs is the kind of philosophy we can get behind. So, of course, we were excited to finally get our hands on the Bowers & Wilkins P9 Signature headphones.
As B&W’s new flagship headphones, and created to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, the P9 Signature encompass everything we’ve come to love about the brand. Construction is top notch, featuring industrial-looking brushed aluminum arms, and Saffiano leather throughout. The fit is sturdy, yet comfortable, ample cushioning in the ear pads and a memory foam pad in the headband. B&W created advanced new 40mm drivers that give the P9 enviable dynamic range, with clear high-frequency sounds and impressive bass, and they’re positioned at a precise angle to your ears to create more natural-sounding stereo performance.
With the classic silver and brown design, the Bowers & Wilkins P9 Signature may look like a pair of vintage headphones, but they are very much in line with today’s high-tech audio equipment. The standard cable includes in-line remote and microphone, and it can be swapped out for a plain 3.5mm cable, or an extra-long cable with a 6.3mm jack for those who want to listen on their home hi-fi system. And good news for those of you who’ve made the courageous choice to go jack-less: B&W will provide a complimentary Lightning cable to owners who register their product, and beginning next year the P9 will ship with the Lightning cable as standard equipment.
