Back To School: Apple iPods

If you haven’t seen or experienced Apple’s line of iPods you might have been living under a rock. With the release of the first iPod on October 23rd, 2001 Apple has revolutionized the way we listen to music.

Where Apple has seen some of its most success has been on college campuses nationwide. Duke University even handed out iPods to all incoming freshmen for educational purposes. These lightweight, entertainment machines, have gone mainstream around college.

Starting with the iPod Nano, this ultra compact MP3 player is perfect for the on-the-go student. Weighing in at only 1.74 ounces and smaller than a credit card, this player is perfect for jogging around campus or working out at the gym. This small player packs a big punch holding up to 8GB or about 2,000 songs. The Nano also allows you to store photos and play back video.

Next, in Apple’s line of MP3 players, is the iPod Classic. This player is meant for those in need of storage capacity. If you like to keep your entire collection of music, without having to pick and choose what’s on your playlist, the Classic is for you. This iPod stores up to 160GB, 40,000 songs, or 200 hours of video. While not as small as the iPod Nano, the Classic still maintains a sleek appearance and comfort of portability.

Finally, we have Apple’s newest iPod, the Touch, introduced to the family in 2007. This media powerhouse is capable of storing up to 32GB or 7,000 songs and contains a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display. With Wi-Fi capabilities and hundreds of applications, students can stay organized and get connected to their university e-mail. —by Scott Shefler
