Add It Up, Energy Star Numbers Don't Lie

Take $680 off your annual energy bills plus spend half of what you’ve been spending on the energy to power your refrigerator, and 10% less on air conditioning. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Joe Klett, a manager at Abt electronics, has recently pointed out that’s all possible—just by switching out old energy-sucking appliances, and buying new Energy Star appliances. According to Klett, appliances account for 17 percent of the energy consumed in homes each year. Can you imagine on top of that, 75 percent of the energy used by home electrics are burned when they are powered off, but left plugged in. Sounds like throwing money away to me.

Klett points out that Energy Star appliances help save consumers money. Energy Star was a program born of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U. S. Department of Energy to help everyone save money as well as benefit the environment. According to Energystar.org, “Results are already adding up. Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved enough energy in 2008 alone to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 29 million cars — all while saving $19 billion on their utility bills.”

Abt carries various Energy Star appliances and we have many highly-educated appliance specialists. Come in and check out all of our environmentally (and wallet) friendly Energy Star appliances!
