Last weekend, we had the pleasure of volunteering at the Northern Illinois Food Bank mobile pantry. Employees from Abt and their family members headed out to the Highwood Recreation Center to help set up a food pantry. Our volunteers helped unload the mobile pantry filled with donated meat, produce, canned goods, and other food products to display. With these different food options available, members within the community were welcome to shop the pantry at no cost.
The Northern Illinois Food Bank’s mission is to provide nutritious food for families that don’t have much access to food. Luckily, the Northern Illinois Food Bank provides mobile pantries so they can directly provide food to those most in need. All donated food is carefully inspected and then distributed to 800 community food pantries and feeding programs. Food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters are some of the feeding programs the organization provides for. With all of the efforts from the volunteers and the feeding programs, more than 71,000 individuals are able to have food each week. Many of the volunteers can agree on giving back to the community is a rewarding feeling.
