Samsung Galaxy Book S Announced

Today’s Samusng Galaxy saw the release of the company’s highly-anticipated Note 10 and Note 10+ smartphones. Along with those mobile devices, Samsung also took the wraps off of a new Galaxy laptop, which could become a favorite of road warriors and anyone who needs epic battery life.

The Samsung Galaxy Book S is essentially the lovechild of a smartphone and a traditional laptop, combining the desirable features of each device. While that concept is nothing new, both previous iterations had leaned closer to a tablet. The Galaxy Book and Galaxy Book 2 were both detachable 2-in-1 laptops (like the Microsoft Surface line), meaning the keyboard was completely removable and the screen portion could be used as a standalone device. The new Galaxy Book S features a traditional clamshell design, just like a regular laptop. While this might reduce versatility for some users, it’s a win for those who could just never get used to the often mushy “folio” keyboards that came with the 2-in-1 laptops. We’d expect a much better tactile experience from the Galaxy Book S.

While it’s built like a traditional laptop, the Galaxy Book S has the guts of a smartphone—both literally and figuratively. Inside the svelte body, you’ll find a Snapdragon 8cx chip, a mobile chip that sips power. Coupled with the 42Wh battery, Samsung is claiming a 23-hour battery life. Built-in LTE gives users the always-on connectivity of a smartphone, so asking for the Wi-Fi password will be a thing of the past. The Galaxy Book S is rounded off with a 13-inch touchscreen display, a microSD card slot, and a USB-C port.

The Galaxy Book S will hit shelves in September, priced at $999.
