Going Green Smoothie

vitamix ascent blender

New year, new start! What appliance is going to help the new, healthier you? Vitamix. This one blender does the work of 13 household kitchen appliances. With this single machine, you can make recipes like smoothies, salsa, peanut & almond butter, hot soups, ice cream, baby food, and even pizza dough!

Today we have a healthy green smoothie recipe to demonstrate how great these blenders are. This recipe, along with many others, can be found in the Vitamix “Simply Blending” cookbook. Included with your Vitamix blender, this cookbook will get you started with blending and help you create your own recipes. But before we get started on our recipe, let’s talk about some of the awesome specs of this model.

The Vitamix Ascent 3500 blender comes with 5 pre-programmed settings: Smoothies, Frozen Desserts, Soups, Dips and Spreads, and Self Cleaning. These programs allow you to create custom smoothies, soups, and make cleaning a breeze. The program modes also allow you to walk away while the blender is running, and let you get other tasks done around the kitchen while the Vitamix blends or cooks for you.

The most well-known feature of Vitamix blenders is the motor. With 2.2 peak horsepower, it's powerful enough to quickly blend even the toughest ingredients to create a smooth, even texture every time. The high-power motor can reach speeds so high that the speed of the blade will heat liquids. Because of that, Vitamix builds in a safety feature that automatically shutds down the motor if it's ever in danger of overheating. When blending, if you think it’s too loud or sounds like it might be in trouble, don’t worry because if there is any sign of overheating the motor will shut off automatically.

Now let’s get into our smoothie recipe! One important detail while making smoothies is to layer your ingredients properly. Watch the video below to see how to layer your smoothie ingredients and to see the Ascent 3500 Blender in action!
