CES 2019: Ring Door View Cam and Smart Lights.

We’re big fans of Ring. Their eponymous video doorbell was one of the first products of its kind, and ushered in a new era of affordable, easy-to-operate home monitoring systems. They’ve since expanded to offer a more comprehensive security solution that includes lights, motion sensors, and more. At CES, we caught up with a suite of products that further expands their catalog and provides additional ways to keep your home safe.

The Ring Video Doorbell is a brilliant product for homeowners, but it wasn’t a viable choice for a huge market segment: renters. Whether in an apartment or a single-family home, the typical renter wouldn’t be permitted to install a Ring, if they even had a location in which to do so. The Ring Door View Cam accommodates renters by adapting to the most common of apartment features: the door peephole. Users just need to unscrew their existing peephole, and the Ring Door View Cam will slot right in. It has all the same features as its more permanent brother—a doorbell button, integrated 2-way intercom, motion-activated camera, and long battery life—while retaining the optical peephole and installing and uninstalling without leaving a mark. Ring’s Door View Cam later this year, priced at just $199.

We also saw a line of new smart lighting for all areas of your home. The Ring Smart Lighting easily integrates into your existing Ring security system, and even includes options of transforming normal “dumb” lights into intelligent ones. Ring Smart Lighting will be in stores the first week of March. Check out the video below to learn about some of its features.
