Abt-Solutely Delicious: Pumpkin Twists

The leaves are falling, the weather is changing, and everyone is wearing flannel. You guessed it—it’s fall, which means pumpkin EVERYTHING! Pumpkin is a great autumnal that can be used in seasonal treats in so many ways! Today we’re featuring an awesome pumpkin treat you can enjoy for a festive breakfast or a warm dessert. These pumpkin twists are perfect for any family or Friendsgiving parties coming up, and will definitely impress your guests! The finished product might make you think the recipe is pretty advanced, but in reality, it’s super simple and easy to do.

This recipe is so easy because it’s basically just creating two things and then putting them together! All you need are the filling ingredients (pumpkin puree, sugar, and pumpkin pie spice) and some store-bought puff pastry.  First, whisk your filling ingredients in a large mixing bowl until they’re evenly mixed. Then, spread the mixture evenly on your flattened puff pastry sheets. Finally comes the assembly. This can be a little tricky to explain, if our directions don’t make sense, just check out the video that follows them.

Whisk together pumpkin puree, sugar, and pumpkin pie spice.

Roll the pastry sheets lengthwise until your pastry looks like a long log. Starting 1 inch away from one end of the pastry log, cut completely through the log, all the way through to the other end. This will split the log into two even pieces attached only at one end. Turn these pieces upwards, showing the layers of the roll, and twist the pieces over each other creating a braided pattern. Once braided, press the free ends together, and connect the front end of the pastry to the bottom to create a circle.

Don’t get discouraged if your twist formation doesn’t look perfect going in the oven. They always turn out great and look mouth-watering when they come out!

 1 egg
 2 tsp water
 4 sheets puff pastry
 1 cup pumpkin puree
 ½ cup granulated sugar
 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
 coarse sugar or sea salt
Glaze
 1 cup powdered sugar
 1 tbsp milk
 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat your oven to 400 Degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside for later.

2

In a small bowl whisk together egg and water, set aside.

In a large bowl, whisk together pumpkin, sugar and pumpkin pie spice.

Layout the puff pastry sheets, evenly divide the pumpkin mixture. Spread pumpkin into an even layer on top of the puff pastry sheet.

7

Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool.

8
