Abt recently had the privilege of teaming up with City Year Chicago to perform a day of service at Chalmers School of Excellence in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago. City Year is a not-for-profit organization that works with public schools across the country to provide academic and social support to at-risk students. From one-on-one classroom tutoring to organizing after school activities, the members of City Year help foster an overall positive environment which encourages every student to reach their full potential.
The students at Chalmers School of Excellence have been doing their part by achieving record levels of classroom attendance, setting a proud example for other schools across the city.
Saturday’s day of service gave volunteers a chance to help out with both general tasks at Chalmers—we painted murals and cleaned up the area around the school—and connect with students on a personal level. It was a fun, meaningful day that we were proud to be a part of, and we’re looking forward to the next opportunity!
