Abt's New Bose Room

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Abt is pleased to announce the opening of the new Bose® room in our audio/video department. Like many of the trusted brands featured in our store, Abt has worked closely together with Bose for many years to create a tremendous shopping experience. This new Bose® area in our store does just that!

The new room features 20 Bose home theater and personal audio products on display, including the newest Lifestyle® home entertainment systems, the simpler 2.1 CineMate® home theater speaker systems, the SoundDock® family of products for iPods® and iPhones®, the Companion® line of computer speakers, and the brand new Bose IE2 and AE2 audio headphones.

Automated displays throughout the space allow Abt customers to explore independently, listen to music and movie demonstrations, and discover more about the product benefits – all with the simple push of a button. The room also allows for more personalized demonstrations with an Abt sales consultant in warm, home-like settings that combine the latest HDTVs, Bose systems, a variety of HD sources, and comfy leather seating.

A great product on display that I had the pleasure of trying out is Bose®’s new Lifestyle® V35 home entertainment system.  Continuing the tradition of Bose®’s popular Lifestyle® systems, the V35 connects up to 6 HD components and upscales any non-HD video to 1080p! I was very impressed with its Unify™ technology system that easily guides any user while installing the unit to existing components.  Even a novice would be able to set this up!

For more information, stop by Abt and take a tour of our newest remodel.  Don’t forget to also check our full line of Bose® products .

The Mac Book Air Has Landed

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Apple’s newest laptop release, the Mac book Air, is actually designed based on the technical specifications of their iPad.  Available in either an 11 inch or 13 inch screen, it is designed around an all-flash storage. This lets the laptop respond quicker and weigh next to nothing.

One of the really intriguing designs for their MacBook Air is the multi-touchtrack pad ability.  Various actions with your fingertips allow you to control the use of applications, adjust images, and move windows.  The mechanics of each move can be seen at Apple’s link, MacBook Features.

Other features include a built-in monitor camera, long lasting battery, a powerful NVIDIA graphics card and a high resolution screen.  For full information, check out our hompage for the MacBook Air or our Apple page for a full line of products and accessories.

Human Touch Meets the iPhone

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

It’s really only a matter of time before iPhones can control everything in the world.  Like the impending robopocalypse from the movie “Terminator”, our iPhones will soon take us over and make us get them movie times, play their music and update their Facebook statuses.  Until then, you can now add another thing to the list of iPhone’s many features: giving a massage.

Manufacturer, Human Touch’s new chair, the AcuTouch 9500 is controlled through the HT-Connect iOS application.  This is a free application that lets users customize their experience by choosing from 8 pre-programmed massages (with the option of saving up to 16), as well as health and fitness tips.

The chair itself is incredibly comfortable.  Made of smooth leather, once you sit down, it’s like receiving a cool hug from a small, soft cloud.  Even if you don’t own an iPhone it can work with the iPad or iPod Touch.  If you’ve somehow avoided the Apple madness and don’t own any of the above three, the chair can be operated solely with its customizable corded controller.  After a long day of work, why not treat yourself to a chair that will ease you both mentally and physically?  Just do it before the iPhones get wise…

R.I.P. Sony Walkman

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

It was announced yesterday on October 25th that production for the Sony Cassette Walkman units has ceased.  Like the indelible sweetness of a John Cusack smile, or a Cindi Lauper pop song, the Sony Walkman helped define the 80’s.  Originally developed under the stewardship of Sony founders Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka, their hope was to design a portable music experience.

When it was first released in July 1979 it cost $200 and allowed users to listen to their favorite music in a personal setting or on the go for the first time.  While transistor radios were portable before the arrival, the Walkman reached out to pure music lovers who collected tapes and listened to their favorite songs endlessly.

The Walkman inspired the creation of the ever-popular “mixtape”.  Music listeners would record their favorite songs, fashion them in an appealing chronological order and hand them over to a loved one.  Letting the tape express what they couldn’t in person, the music spoke for itself and was sometimes better than giving a dozen roses.  While creating a “mixtape” has been replaced by “burning a CD”, the romantic gesture is still there.

The Sony Cassette Walkman stayed strong by keeping its head above water the last nine years since the arrival of the iPod in 2001.  Tragically, all good things must come to an end.  So thank you, Sony Walkman, for being there for so many angsty teens who sat in their rooms and tuned out their parents rants, and all the joggers who took “Culture Club” with them around the park. You may be gone, but you’re not forgotten.

Keep Your Car Safe & Warm This Winter

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

It’s 7 am. The month of December.  22 degrees outside. You have to be at work in an hour, but you just woke up.  You need to shower, change, eat breakfast, make a lunch and give yourself about 10-15 minutes to warm up your car properly.  Sure, you could throw on the coat, gloves, scarf and run out to your car, turn it on and run back inside. But as technology progresses, it’s supposed to make life easier; which is why Viper has made protecting your car easy and even went the extra mile.

Viper, manufacturer of automatic car starters, has developed a new car starter that is able to link to your iPhone, Android phone or BlackBerry.  The starter requires you to install the Viper SmartStart and pay a yearly service fee of $29.99.  Downloading the free application for your smartphone allows you to unlock doors, open the trunk, turn the heat or air conditioner on and even notify you when your alarm goes off, all via your cellular phone.

Viper SmartStart works over the 3G cellular network or Wi-Fi, allowing you to  have an unlimited range in the U.S.  As long as your car is in within the appropriate distance of a GSM/GPRS cellular signal and your smartphone has a 3G or Wi-Fi signal, SmartStart will work. Anywhere. Anytime.

Check out Viper’s site for additional products and services.  And remember, if you live in the Chicagoland area, Abt’s Mobile Installation techs can professionally install this for you .  Call us at 847-967-8830 for details.

The Watch Fair: A Wonderful Time

Monday, October 25th, 2010

The Watch Fair at Abt this weekend was extremely successful.  Hundreds of people came by to search for their perfect time piece and mingle with representatives from high-end manufacturers.  Some of the extremely limited pieces that were brought in were even sold.  “A few of Ball’s beautiful 18karat gold watches were purchased by some thrilled customers”, said Torrice a Watch Store representative.

Other limited pieces on display were Movado’s special line of watches, designed by artist Kenny Scharf.  They are definitely an intriguing, albeit odd design on five specially styled watches. They are so limited only 150 of each was made.

For the full line of our watches and watch accessories, check out our watch homepage.

Abt's Watch Fair 2010

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

The Watch Fair at Abt will be this weekend, Oct 23-24th. Saturday hours are 10 am- 5pm and Sunday hours are 11am-4pm.  At the fair there will be representatives from each watch manufacturer we sell in our Time Boutique.  On Saturday and Sunday, Ball, Swiss Army, Tissot, Longines, Movado and Citizen will be in attendance.  On Sunday there will be a representative from Hamilton watches.  Limited pieces will be brought in by Ball on Saturday and Sunday.

In speaking with Tony B, a watch sales specialist, the top five selling brands we carry are Ball, Movado, Rado, Michele, Tissot.  When it comes to which is most popular, there isn’t a style or model that really outsells each other.  Each watch is unique and compliments our clientele who all have their own unique perspectives on that they like.

We have a watchmaker is available during the day every Wednesday and Saturday for customers who own a watch that needs servicing.  Even if the watch wasn’t purchased at Abt, the watchmaker will still take care of the watch.  On-site repairs include resizing, changing batteries etc. More detailed work, such as replacing crystals, need to be done off-site.

Stop by this weekend and find the right time piece as a gift for the upcoming holidays, or, to just treat yourself.

Holiday Shopping Forecast

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

According to the Consumer Electronics Association, that while all around holiday-gift shopping sales might drop this year approximately 2% per person, the purchasing of consumer electronics is expected to rise by 5% per person.

Could this prediction come from the new releases of exciting items such as iPads and 3D TVs?  Perhaps. What do you think?
