Research In Motion (RIM) the company best known as the developer of the BlackBerry cellular phones, recently announced their newest product: The PlayBook. So You Bought An Appliance. Now What?

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

You’ve just taken possession of your new appliance. Congratulations! The first thing to do is find the warranty card, fill out the necessary information, mail it to the manufacturer. After all the time you spent picking which product you wanted, don’t you want to know how to get the best use out of it? Grab a cup of tea or a glass of soda and learn about all the wonderful things your new toy can do for you.

The appliances we use today are much more advanced than ones made years ago. There are water-saving features with dishwashers and washing machines, and “energy-saving” is the buzzword for refrigerators and cooking appliances.

Here are just a few helpful hints I’d like to share with you.

  • Dishwashers and washers require less soap than your old units. The soap dispensers in dishwashers do not need to be filled all the way, and too much soap leaves a white powdery film.
  • Using a rinse-aid in the dishwasher helps the dishes to dry faster, leaves less spots and is recommended by the manufacturer.
  • If the washing machine says to use HE soap, purchase only that kind. It is created just for these machines and a very small amount is required. More doesn’t always mean better (it only applies to chocolate and sleep).
  • If you’ve gotten a refrigerator, be advised that it takes up to 24 hours for it to “settle” and know that it’s in a new home. This would be a good time to remove any tape holding parts in place, because if you wait until later it may not come off and I speak from experience…years of experience.
  • Since we’re talking about refrigerators, stainless steel seems to be popular with a lot of folks. The biggest problem (granted, it’s cosmetic) is fingerprints. We have a premium stainless steel cleaner that works like a charm on those handprints. It’s Eco-friendly, made by Bayes and is only $9.95. They also make Eco-friendly cleaners for glass, ceramic, enamel, granite, marble, natural stone surfaces, barbecue cleaner and protectant, wood and bamboo cleaner, and even leather upholstery. All these products are only $9.95 for 125-175L per bottle.
  • If you need a special part, our Appliance Parts Department can order any part for your appliance.

For more information, please contact our appliance service department or speak with a customer service representative through our live chat tool.

Abt Installs a Solar Panel System at Fairview Elementary School

Monday, September 27th, 2010

A couple weekends ago, an Abt installation crew went to Fairview Elementary School to install a solar panel system.  Officials from Fairview approached Abt for this job because of a grant they received from the State of Illinois to install a solar system.  The panels were mounted on a south facing wall, in the middle of the court yard.  The 1.8 kilowatt system consisted of 8 panels and an Enphase Microinverter system.  The Microinverter system is unique in that it allows the panels to collect the maximum amount of sunlight, regardless if part of the panel is covered by shade or any other obstructers.  Bob Taylor, Director of Operations at Abt, said that “We were very excited to give the school a much larger system than typical to most of these store because of the new products we are using which have a better value for their dollar.”

Need A New Laptop? Abt Has The Perfect One For You!

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

I could not believe it until I actually saw it. The Toshiba Protégé R700-S1321 is the most impressive laptop that I have seen in years.  With its 13.3-inch screen that still lets me keep an optical drive but yet does not sacrifice battery and power, and best yet boasts about an 8 plus hour battery, and includes Windows 7 Professional, or a free downgrade to Windows XP. What could be better? Well the fact that this laptop only weighs 3.2 pounds and includes a Core i5 processor. Overall this machine is special in the sense that for the first time in a long time Toshiba is offering a laptop that gives you the best of both worlds; thin and lightweight with plenty of power and battery life. Abt has this laptop on display in the Connect Store. It is something that should be truly seen if you are in the market for a new laptop.

Crestron – Now At Abt

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Abt is excited to add the Crestron brand to our home audio line up.  We will have the entire array of products from both the Adagio and Prodigy lines.  I was able to attend one of the Crestron trainings presented by our Crestron rep, Dave Koller.  It was interesting to learn that Crestron has been around for 44 years, is independently owned (like Abt), and has had the same owner.  They employ over 500 full-time engineers to create and update their brand.  Having that many engineers also allows them to consistently roll out new products.  Currently there are over 3500 products in their catalog, and they are adding 200 to 500 new products annually. The Prodigy line is their consumer line where you can control your home starting at $1100.  The Adagio line is their step up line and caters to those looking for high performance and multi-room distribution.
