Lots of people looking to save money will be traveling by car for their summer vacations rather than paying for expensive airline tickets. That means a lot of them also will be relying on GPS units to get them where they’re going by the quickest route possible. If you’re one of these people, and you want to make your vacation trip even more fun, why not bring Homer Simpson along for the ride?
Homer’s voice is now available for TomTom GPS users to download from the company’s website for $12.95. Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer as well as several other characters on “The Simpsons,” provides the GPS directions and other sayings in his iconic, Homeric way. You’ll not only hear actual, accurate directions (surprising, since it’s Homer leading the way), but also things like, “Take the third right. We might find an ice cream truck! Mmm…ice cream.”
Don’t already own a TomTom GPS device? Abt has several models available that will allow you to not only employ Homer as your tour guide, but also offer other great features including anti-glare touch screens, Bluetooth remote control, and enhanced positioning technology.
There are several other celebrity voices available to download from the TomTom site, including Kim Cattrall, John Cleese, Dennis Hopper, and Mr. T. But die-hard “Simpsons” fans probably won’t be able to resist the urge to hear Homer shout, “Woohoo!” when they follow his directions correctly. If you’re lucky, he might even lead you to a place that serves fresh, warm, delicious D’oh! – nuts. —by Graham W.
