Go Green While You Clean

Friday, December 28th, 2007

Holiday parties, guests staying for several days (whether you expected them to or not), cookies and other goodies in just about every room, dirty clothes and other non-goodies in just about every room—it all adds up to all lot of stuff that needs to be cleaned. Your post-holiday home purification can be less stressful and more efficient with the right appliances, and you can even help the planet at the same time. That’s a win-win for everything except dirt and crumbs, although the dirt outside may thank you.

The Energy Star-efficient Miele vacuums conserve electricity while improving the air quality in your home by employing variable speed settings along with active HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters to capture lung-damaging particles. To clean all those dirty dishes, check out the Bosch Integra 500 Series 24″ undercounter dishwashers. Bosch dishwashers use an ECOSENSE system that automatically deletes unneeded fresh water fills to cut energy usage by 20%, and an ECOOPTION feature that adjusts water temperature and cycle length to reduce energy usage by up to 25%.

The Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer

Now that the floors and dishes are finally clean, you can move on to that pile of dirty clothes you’ve been trying to ignore. The Whirlpool Duet Front Load Washer uses sensors to determine the size of the load and then delivers the precise amount of water needed to clean it, with the water then warmed gradually to make the detergent more effective. The matching Whirlpool Duet Gas Dryer features an AccelerCare sensor drying system that safely speeds drying, along with sound-absorbing materials on the top and sides to help reduce noise. Both the washer and the dryer are Energy Star qualified.

Also, just in case you forget how Green you’re becoming, these Whirlpool machines come in Aspen Green to provide a constant reminder. Your home and your planet thank you. —by Graham W.

Don’t Have a Loft? Create One

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Did you get your dream home entertainment system over the holidays but are still trying to figure out the perfect way to set it up? Check out The Loft, the latest exciting addition to Abt’s custom home theater department. The room was designed to showcase the newest audio/video technology and home theater furnishings in a realistic home setting. Customers who live in lofts or have similar rooms sparked the idea, which led to our designers creating this comfortable, affordable, yet cutting-edge environment—one that’s easy to envision having in your own home.

The centerpiece of The Loft is a Panasonic 58″ 1080p Plasma Flat Panel HDTV, surrounded by a Palliser Leather Couch, Evo Wall Furniture, BDI tables, Cinema Design Group International’s landscape and movie acoustic panels, and a Control4 home automation system. Adaptability is the key to The Loft, as customers can select some or all of these products or customize their Loft home theater with the many great options available at Abt. Visit The Loft in our showroom (or stare at the photo), and you’ll find yourself saying, “Wow, I can do this in my own home!” or else, “Wow, I need to get a new home for all this awesome new stuff!” —by Graham W.

Look Who Waited Until the Last Second

Friday, December 21st, 2007

It’s you! Time’s running out, so we’ll make this quick. You’ve waited until the last second again this year, and now you need some help to get your holiday shopping done. Stay calm, take a deep breath, hang on, here we go…………

If you know someone who has an HDTV, they need a high-def DVD player to enjoy their TV to the fullest. The Toshiba HDA3 HD-DVD player and the Sony BDPS300 Blu-ray Disc Player have come down in price dramatically in recent weeks, and the Sony also comes with a free Spider-Man 3 Blu-ray disc. Both the Sony and the Toshiba also offer five free high-def discs by mail.

Serious gamers who can’t seem to leave their PS3s need the Nyko PlayStation 3 Black Intercooler to keep their consoles (and themselves) from overheating. The Spectroniq 7″ Interchangeable Digital Photo Frame is great for people who love to share lots of photos. It has a four-in-one card reader, supports two USB devices, and offers a slideshow feature with background music. The cook in your life could probably use a KitchenAid Artisan Series stand mixer. The Artisan Series mixers come in a variety of colors and offer 325-watt motors and 5-quart mixing bowl capacity.

Now that your shopping dilemma is solved, it’s time for you to slide into the Human Touch Robotic Massage Chair and reward yourself for a job well done. No one has to know we helped. (By the way, you can’t go wrong with a Gift Card—they rarely get returned because they don’t fit or they’re the wrong color.)

Got a Spare $120,000 Lying Around?

Friday, December 14th, 2007

Did you happen to dig up a chest full of gold doubloons and Pieces of Eight on your last trip to the Dry Tortugas? If you’ve suddenly (or not so suddenly) come into a windfall and don’t know what to do with it, here are some luxury gift ideas guaranteed to prevent your cash from burning a hole in your pocket. You know, it’s not going to spend itself.

First, you’ll need some fine Swiss watches so you’ll know the exact time you slipped into your spending frenzy (but don’t forget—these are supposed to be gifts, so don’t keep anything). The ChronoSwiss Rattrapante men’s watch features a silver-plated dial with Arabic and Roman numerals, a decorative bezel with one-sided anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and 28 jewels ($10,500). The Rado Sintra Super Jubile black dial women’s watch has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, four diamond hour markers, a case set with 40 diamonds, and a bracelet set with 76 diamonds ($5,800).

Beolab 5 Loudspeakers– now visiting Earth

These watches also might help your gift recipients determine how long their wine has been aging in their new Sub-Zero 400 Series wine storage refrigerator. This unit can store up to 147 bottles, has two zone temperature controls, pull-out shelves, a stainless finish with glass door, and a display shelf illuminated with discreet lighting ($6,000).

With all that wine, there has to be a party, so your next gift will have to supply some audio and video entertainment. You can grab Bang & Olufsen’s BeoVision 50″ plasma HDTV ($21,900), Beosound 9000 CD player ($4,875), and Beolab 5 Loudspeakers ($19,700 a pair), for a grand total of $46,475.

If a 50″ TV isn’t quite big enough, and $69,999.95 is still within your budget, why not get something twice as big? The Panasonic VIERA 103″ plasma HDTV is the world’s largest plasma television and features full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

I know, that’s still not enough, so this is where that $120,000 in the headline comes into play. For that paltry sum, you can pick up the Sony SXRD Large Venue and High-Resolution Applications Projector, which many movie theaters now use. This unit features 4K technology to deliver more than four times the pixels of HD projection, making it the first on the market to achieve 8.8 million pixel resolution — 4096 x 2160 pixels.

A screen would be a nice complement to this projector, but let’s not go crazy. If you buy everything listed above, it will set you back $258,774.95, and I know just the person who’d like to receive it all (I’ll re-gift the women’s watch). –by Graham W.

Hot Holiday Gift Ideas

Friday, December 7th, 2007

It’s the holiday season, and you don’t want to do a lot of thinking. You’ve got better things to do—like not thinking. That’s why we’ve come to the rescue with our Hot Holiday Gift Ideas. Finding the perfect gift for everyone on your list can be a difficult, time-consuming task, so our salespeople have sorted through the thousands of possibilities to help you narrow down your search. These items are in the low- to mid-price range, and next week we’ll have a list of high-end luxury items for those of you who are feeling especially spendish.

Sony Bravia

Digital cameras and photo frames make perfect gifts for just about anyone on your list, regardless of age or gender. Our digital video camcorder & photo frame bundle features a 6-in-1 multifunctional digital video camera along with a 7″ color LCD digital photo frame. Sony’s Cyber-Shot digital cameras also make great gifts. They’ve received excellent reviews and come in a variety of colors, with features like 3X or 5X optical zoom lens designs and 2.5″ or 3.5″ widescreen LCD displays.

Know people who get lost easily? If they don’t happen to have their own red-nosed reindeer, get them a GPS navigation system. The Garmin Nuvi 200 and the TomTom GO 720 are two great choices, with the GO 720 packing in more features for a bit more money. For the music lovers in your life, you can’t go wrong with the iPod nano or the Sony 4GB Walkman, both of which also let you watch TV shows, movies, and other videos.

No holiday season would be complete without some game playing. The Sony PSP, PS2, and PS3 offer exciting video game action, and one of the hottest new games is “Call Of Duty 4.” If you’re planning to give a new HDTV to a lucky someone, check the Samsung 19″ LCD Flat Panel HDTV we have on sale. For those who like to have their TV match its surroundings, Sony offers the 26″ BRAVIA S-Series LCD Flat Panel HDTVs in black, white, pink, green, red, and blue.
