Abt Makes Internet Hot 100

Friday, November 30th, 2007

At Abt, we try hard to do everything we can to please our customers, whether they’re visiting our Chicago area store or checking out our website. We are proud to have received numerous awards and other recognition for exceptional customer service throughout our more than 70-year history, the latest being named one of the Hot 100 Best Retail Web Sites by Internet

Mentioned in particular is the Guidester tool on our site, which helps customers narrow down their search for a specific item (or SKU). “Looking at hundreds of SKUs in a category can have shoppers asking ‘Where do I begin’ and we didn’t want that,” our co-president, Jon Abt, told Internet Retailer. “We want to replicate the in-store experience our sales representatives provide in guiding customers to the right product.”

Internet Retailer also cited how we will set up service calls for customers living outside the Chicago area rather than direct them to the manufacturer. Jon stated that “We are known for service in Chicagoland but we want that same reputation out of state, which is why we go that extra mile.”

What is HD Radio?

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Have you seen or heard the ads about HD Radio but still aren’t sure exactly what it is? Don’t feel bad—you’re not alone. Many people are still in the dark about HD Radio and whether it’s something they would want for their home or car audio systems. The part about delivering crystal-clear sound is easy enough to understand, but what about that “stations between the stations” stuff the ads talk about? Here’s a video that should help answer all of your questions:

One great feature to keep in mind is that there are no subscription fees involved. All you have to do is get yourself a radio designed to receive HD broadcasts, and you’re all set. View all the new HD Radio products we have available at Abt today.  –by Graham W.

Let Your Fingers Do the Shopping

Monday, November 26th, 2007

If you’re reading this, congratulations! You made it through Black Friday without getting trampled, or at least not badly enough to keep you from turning on your computer. There couldn’t be a better day to do just that, because today is Cyber Monday, the internet version of Black Friday. The term was coined a few years ago by, the online division of the National Retail Federation, in recognition of the huge upsurge in internet sales on the Monday following the Thanksgiving weekend.

After recovering from the post-Thanksgiving rush ourselves, we noticed that along with HDTVs, smaller electronics are popular purchases this year. GPS devices have really taken off, with their features growing while their prices are shrinking. Also in demand are digital cameras, iPods, laptops, and video game consoles.

If you haven’t finished your holiday shopping yet, check out our Cyber Monday deals. Now just make sure your boss doesn’t catch you ordering a home theater system for yourself when you should be ordering office supplies.  –by Graham W.

Chase Away the Black Friday Blues

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Does Black Friday give you the blues? Many people can’t stand waiting in long lines at 3 a.m. just for the chance to save a few dollars on items the stores want to get rid of. Abt takes a different approach to most things, so instead of offering just five crazy hours, we’re giving you five days to pick out the things you really want—with an additional 5% off our already low prices. We also offer free delivery or free shipping on thousands of items.

What are your must-get electronics or appliances this year? iPods and MP3 players? An HDTV? A digital camera or camcorder? What about something for the kitchen, like a new microwave or espresso machine? Post a comment here and let your fellow shoppers know which items you think would make great gifts. You can even reveal what you’re hoping to receive this year, and maybe someone you know will get the hint and put it on their list.  –by Graham W.

Gobble Up These Helpful Hints

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the many blessings we have in our lives, such as family and friends. It’s also a time to relax, stuff yourself, maybe watch some football—you know, the really important things in life. If you’re preparing the Thanksgiving feast this year—and personally, I wouldn’t touch that task with a 10-foot turkey leg—we can fill you in on some kitchen accessories that will make the job a lot easier and way more enjoyable.

Elvia Diaz and Richie Palmero, two of the sales specialists in our Gourmet Shop, recommend this trio of items to get you started: the All-Clad Roti Set featuring a non-stick Roasting Rack and stainless steel Turkey Lifters; the Epicurean 21×15 slate nutmeg Cutting Board; and the Cuisinart CEK40 Electric Knife with one-touch pressure-activated on/off trigger and separate bread and carving blades.

To help ease your burden even more, Elvia and Richie suggest you consider adding some small appliances to your kitchen arsenal, such as a Stand Mixer or Hand Blender, a Slow Cooker, a Pressure Cooker, or a Bread Machine. Also, don’t forget a Digital Thermometer to let you know when the turkey is ready for carving (and whether you’re coming down with a fever or it’s just the heat from the oven).

It’s About Time

Friday, November 9th, 2007

New to the Atrium area of our store is the Abt Time Boutique, which officially opened the day before our Customer Appreciation Sale (see below). We currently carry several fine Swiss watch lines including Gucci, Rado, Swiss Army, and Tissot, as well as Citizen, Hamilton, Seiko, Skagen, and Suunto. These watches and others are also available on our website (click here).

Watches and Atrium

This is an exciting new endeavor for us at Abt—one that our customers often asked us to become involved in. To create this unique boutique, we acquired vintage cases to display the watches in a luxurious setting and designed the room to make the watches the prominent feature.

Abt Shows Its Appreciation

Monday, November 5th, 2007

As you can see from the photos below, our Customer Appreciation Day (held on Sunday, Nov. 4) was a huge success once again with our loyal customers. Abt holds these sales a few times a year to give returning customers a chance to get the latest electronics and appliances at special prices. On hand throughout the day were more than 250 Abt salespeople, 150 manufacturer representatives, and more than 12,000 customers who helped make this event a spectacular success.   —by Graham W.
