Choose Energy Star Globe

In the wake of growing environmental concern, it seems everybody is finding ways to go green. Abt is committed to making the environment cleaner and safer for the benefit of our customers, our employees, our children and generations to come. In addition to increasing our recycling efforts, we continue to improve energy efficiency within our warehouse and truck fleet.  We encourage our customers to Go Green with the Energy Star approved appliances and electronics we carry including washers, dryers, refrigerators, televisions and more. These appliances also help the consumer in return by using less energy and lowering monthly energy bills

We all have a choice, and choosing Energy Star appliances is a great way to do your part to help the environment. There are other great ways to reduce your carbon emissions including unplugging battery chargers, small kitchen appliances and televisions when they are not directly in use. Small steps can make a big difference. For example, you could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year just by moving your thermostat down two degrees in the winter and up two degrees in the summer.

For those of you in the Chicagoland area looking for ideas on how to combat global warming, check out the CoolGlobes public art exhibit along the lakefront. This exhibit, which runs through September, features a display of over 100 decorated globes each featuring a different solution to help the environment. Abt is sponsoring the Energy Star themed globe designed by local artist Jill King. You can find out more info on the government sponsored Energy Star program, including product listings and energy saving tips, online here.               —by Stephanie D.

Back to School

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

It’s that time of year again. Summer is winding down and the inevitable back to school preparations are right around the corner. Sometimes, the best products for back to school aren’t pens and paper; they’re the cool new products or latest gadgets to help chase away the end of summer blues. As the Abt Marketing intern, I spent a lot of time browsing their huge selection of electronics and appliances on their website. This sparked some ideas of what I needed for this upcoming school year. This summer my favorite gadget so far has been my iPod Nano. It holds a variety of my favorite music and is so small I can take it anywhere. Because there are very few places I go without my iPod Nano, I was constantly checking out the latest accessories. For back to school, I love the new Nike+ iPod Sport Kit. The Sport Kit is a tiny attachment you sync with your iPod and a sensor you keep in your running shoes that keep track of your workouts. You can either purchase the Nike+ shoes or buy a strap to attach the sensor to your current shoes. All of your workout data can be stored at, where you can set new goals or challenge your friends. These products actually have me excited to head back to school so I can discover new running paths, armed with an iPod full of my favorite music.

DLP NASCAR Features Abt at Chicagoland Speedway

 Abt Racecar

I’ve seen the Abt logo many places, but speeding around a racetrack at 120mph was one place it took me by surprise. Abt Electronics made its racing debut last month, featured on the side of the DLP HDTV Chevrolet. The race car, piloted by full-time driver Tony Raines finished 24th in the USG Sheetrock 400 held at the Chicagoland Speedway. The partnership between Abt and the DLP race car is the result of a long relationship with Texas Instruments, the developers of DLP Technology.

Abt Electronics carries a large selection TVs including a variety of the best LCD, plasma and DLP TVs.  DLP televisions convey high quality, fast moving digital images, making them perfect for watching action movies and sports like NASCAR. Check out Tony Raines and the DLP Chevrolet in action on ABC starting in September.      —by Stephanie D.

Get Guidance From Guidester

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

If there is one thing I learned at school last year, it’s that four girls cannot always fit everything they need in one refrigerator. One of my colleagues here at Abt suggested I look into buying an additional compact refrigerator. They are more affordable and don’t take up much space, but can hold enough food to free up extra room in our regular fridge.

 Avanti Undercounter Refrigerator - EC15WH

Since I don’t have much experience in refrigerator shopping, I wasn’t really sure where to start. But, then I heard there was a newly added Guidester tool for refrigerators. These Guidester tools help narrow down product inventory based on your own personal criteria, so I could immediately limit my online search to only compact refrigerators. Narrowing the search down further by my desired color and price, I found there were six compact refrigerators that matched what I need. After viewing three of them in a side-by-side comparison chart, it was easy to pick out the best product for the price. Next time you’re looking for a new appliance at Abt, the Guidester tools are a great place to start your research or find the perfect fit. There are currently 18 Guidester tools on the web site including newly added Guidesters for washers, dryers and dishwashers. —by Stephanie D.
