A Shopping Mall in Your Smartphone

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

In a recent consumer study, Nielsen reports that 29 percent of smartphone owners are “mobile shoppers.”  This report indicated that 29 percent are buying items from their phone, instead of their computer or going to an actual mall.  The percentage is higher when consumers use their smarthones to locate a mall, reviews, or get a number to a physical store.

For now, the most popular shopping uses for smartphones are product research, usually in-store. In Q3 2011, 38 percent of mobile shoppers in Nielsen’s survey compared prices online while shopping in a store; 38 percent also browsed products through websites or apps, and 32 percent read online reviews of products.  How about you?  How often do you use your phone for shopping?

Shoppers On the Move….

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

According to a survey done by BIGresearch for the National Retail Federation, around 138 million shoppers are expected to make it out to stores this Black Friday weekend.  This constitutes a 3% increase from last year’s numbers.

Some believe this rise in numbers is because of the buzz that retailers have created by already releasing information for their biggest sales.  This sneak peek allows shoppers to accurately set up where and when to make it for the best deals.  We here at Abt don’t like to follow Black Friday regulations: get there early and shop fast, so we will be having a sale this whole weekend.  From open to close.  No rush and no need to camp outside.  Just great deals for you and yours this holiday season from Abt.

Do You Use Your Phone To Shop?

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Mobile Survey

According to, 15% of consumers use their phone to make purchases.  This includes using their phone to verify product ability, competitively price items while at a store, and create shopping lists.  Out of the respondents, two thirds like the idea of self-scanning their items to avoid checkout lines, while one fourth of respondents would like to use their phones to get coupons and store specials.  The main complaints of using the mobile channel were internet connection problems, the cell phone’s screen size wasn’t large enough to compare products, and security issues.

Do you use your phone to shop?   If yes, what are your reasons to do so and do you have any concerns?

Is Cyber Monday the New Black Friday?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Black Friday, a flood of people entered the Abt showroom for our first early opening in history. Will Cyber Monday realize the same flurry of people on and in our phone sales department?

Traditionally, Black Friday has been the busiest shopping day of the year. In recent years, Cyber Monday has given Black Friday a run for its money. What will this year bring? Will Cyber Monday outshine Black Friday???
