Get the Most Out of Your Pre-Summer Workouts

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Garmin Forerunner 405Everyone wants to be in tip top shape for summer. Who doesn’t want a lean toned body to show off at the beach? One of the largest hurdles the average person faces is making time to exercise. The answer to this problem is to train smarter, not harder.

As a certified personal trainer, I’m speaking from experience when I tell you my heart rate watch is my best friend. It lets me know when I’m maximizing my time at the gym, and also when I need to get in gear and push harder. Are you training for endurance? With the  Garmin Forerunner Fitness Watch, you can track your progress, load it online wirelessly, or share it with other Forerunner owners. You can set courses, share them and compete timed runs on the same courses with other users. It’s a great way to stay motivated on a run.

If you’re less interested in distance running, and more interested in weight-loss, you can adjust your workout to keep your body burning FAT! By keeping your heartrate in your fat burning zone (target heartrate zone), your body will burn calories from your fat stores, rather than other energy sources.

I use mine everytime I hit the gym, or head out for a run through the neighborhood. I track my daily progress and compare it weekly to ensure my fitness program will ultimately get me to my goal.

It’s the perfect way to hold yourself accountable without the added cost of a personal trainer.

CES 2011: The nPower Peg

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Lots of us have so much energy it seems like we don’t know what to do with it.  The geniuses at nPower have devised a little gadget that helps us put our over-anxiousness to good use: the nPower Peg.  This little device is a backup battery charger for hand held devices.  As you walk, run, jog or even ride your bike, the movements from your body provide energy for its internal battery.  If you are in a pinch and need battery life, just shake the heck out of it for a few moments and you will have enough power to make a phone call.  Definitely a little device to keep an eye out for.
