The Abt family is constantly asked why their business thrives; what’s their secret to success? Most simply, they hold true to the values passed down from their parents and grandparents. Jewel and David Abt taught future generations to relish change, keep the store uniquely exciting, and take care of customers.
After being nominated for a U.S. Global Innovator Award (gia), by Peter Giannetti, of Home World Business Magazine (HWBM), Abt was honored as a gia winner on March 14th. The awards dinner was at the Hotel Intercontinental in Chicago. Ricky Abt and Joe Klett attended to accept the award. It is the Abt Family’s commitment to Jewel and Dave’s advice that helped win this award.
Home World Business magazine showcased Abt and their Global Innovator Award in the March 14th issue. Abt’s unique 358,000 square foot facility, Atrium, and business practices were also highlighted.
Robert (Bob) Abt, CEO, was the visionary behind Abt’s unique showroom. Keeping the store unique and exciting was at the forefront of his design concept. Bob is “a student of the Steve Wynn school of visual merchandising, and he readily admits the iconic Las Vegas casino innovator was his biggest inspiration,” Peter Giannetti reported in the March 14th issue of HWBM.
The Bellagio was Bob’s design influence for the Atrium; which some compare to a mall. At the center of the Atrium is a fountain and surrounding the fountain’s dancing waters is a series of kitchen vignettes and boutique stores. The Abt family wants their customers to have a unique shopping experience. The Atrium provides a comfortable environment and entertainment for the whole family.
Looking past the esthetics of the store, Abt thrives, thanks to unmatched customer service and the green initiatives. The recycling center, using a co-generator, and selling environmentally friendly electronics and appliances have helped to reduce Abt’s carbon footprint.
Abt is still family owned and managed by Bob and his four sons, Mike, Jon, Ricky, and Billy. There is always an Abt family member at the store, Jewel and Dave’s vision is achieved everyday.
Taking care of customers by providing unparalleled service pre- and post-sale service is a number one priority, as seen in the customer service motto posted throughout the store, “The Answer is Always Yes to any Reasonable Request.”
Abt has been growing and changing with customers since 1936; Abt will continue to do so as long as there are appliances and electronics in the home.
