As the news talks incessantly of the case of Apple vs. Samsung and “who copied who”, there are a handful of people who cherish the idea of new innovations.  Pittsburgh resident Richard Hamel was fascinated by the movie “How to Train Your Dragon” he decided to build a dragon all his own.

Originally a radio-control plane builder, Hamel decided to try and actually build a real life animatronic dragon that can even breathe fire.  With that little idea, he put it to the test and succeeded.  Hamel built a fully functioning dragon out of a JetCat P80 turbine.  One year and $8,000 later, the results are pretty amazing. It just goes to show what can be created with a little imagination and hard work.

Thank Goodness for New Technology

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

Popularscience.com, the oh-so-interesting science and technology website released a list they’ve written about regarding amazing portable products on an article entitled, “Most Gigantic Portable Gadgets“.  As you can tell by the title, the once portable miracles are not so portable anymore.  My favorite was the hand held video camera…

Not much different than the one my dad used to lug around in the late 80′s.  It  had a viewfinder the size of a submarine’s periscope and recorded on full-size VHS tapes.  Luckily, many things have progressed since then and we can enjoy our electronics and portable devices in a much more convenient way.  Looking for your own portable electronics?  Check out our Portable Electronics selection and find just what you need for on-the-go.

Before There Were Air Conditioners

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Before the luxury of central air in homes, or even the convenience of portable air conditioners, there were various possible options on how to keep oneself cool during the hot summer nights.  From the outlandishly technological, to the simple air-cooling solutions, famous magazine Popular Science goes over various ways people used to beat the heat in the past.  Their online article entitled, “10 Old-Fashioned Ways to Beat the Heat” is a gallery of old inventions, some genius, some just plain silly, on how people kept cool.

When looking at these machines, it’s amazing to see how past generations felt cool. With just a few drops of temperature in their living rooms and homes, these machines could probably make an 85 degree room feel like 80 degrees.  Then again, I’ll never understand how past generations attended summer baseball games with women in full dresses and men in suits and fedoras.  Maybe we are just lucky to enjoy the advancement of technology that led us to cooler, clean air inside our homes.  If you are still suffering from the recent heat waves, we have exactly what you need to keep cool.  Check out our full line of air conditioners and stay cool this summer.

I bet hot dogs taste better when you wear a suit
