Microwaves are convenient to have in your home, offering a quicker and easier way of preparing your food without taking up a lot of space or hurting your wallet. They make it easier to defrost frozen foods, reheat last night’s left overs, and even cook an entire meal. As the technology of microwaves continues to evolve, innovators are finding ways to ensure more consistent results and solve uneven cooking. The experts at Panasonic have come up with the intuitive design of Inverter Technology, which should eliminate the struggles of uneven cooking. Unlike most microwaves that depend on “pulse on, pulse off” cooking at low temperatures, the patented Inverter Technology creates a constant flow of power at all temperature settings, ensuring evenly cooked food at all times.

Televisions have been getting thinner and thinner every year, bringing us to today’s svelte OLED TVs that measure under a centimeter in depth. An ultrathin TV flush-mounted to the wall blends into existing home decor much better than the huge tube TVs of yesteyear. Even relatively recent plasma TVs are bulky in comparison. But view an OLED TV from the side and it almost disappears. So perhaps the next evolution in TVs will be to make them almost literally vanish with the push of a button. This year at CES, we’ve scoped out transparent TVs from two of the big names in display technology.
Panasonic cleverly integrated their transparent LED TV into home shelving, so when the TV is powered off it acts as a display case for knick-knacks or photos.
Samsung, meanwhile, utilized OLEDs to achieve a similar effect.
Samsung’s display hints towards a more commercial application, as opposed to home use. Although, we do like the suggestion that panels like these may one day replace windows—we’d never have to suffer through a gloomy Chicago winter day again! There’s no definitive release information set for either of these examples, so don’t expect to see transparent TVs (pun intended) in stores any time soon.
Back in the 1980s, there were two things about the music that were big: the hair, and the boomboxes. Thankfully, both style and technology evolved, and the D-Battery-powered, shoulder-mounted cassette stereo went the way of the teased, crimped, bleach-blonde mane. Those looking for a portable, all-in-one music system were presented with numerous options of stereo mini systems. These classy, compact stereo systems were designed to fit in with either the boardroom or dorm room crowd, saving space yet still putting out respectable sounds. And for a while, the boombox languished in obscurity, a relic of times past. A few quick stops at CES 2014, though, and it looks like these sonic beasts have not yet given up fighting.
At the LG exhibit, our man on the ground demoed the new LG X Boom CM9730 boom box, which features a face-melting 25,000 watts of power. I don’t know how much power that is, but I’m pretty sure you can jump start a dump truck with this thing. The X Boom is not for the weak of heart, or those short on space for that matter. Each of the two speaker units is roughly the size of a shetland pony, and LG’s specs show that the entire package tips the scales at over 350 lbs! LG bills the X Boom as sort of party-in-a-box, putting out the kind of power needed to replicate the dance club atmosphere in your home, backyard or hopefully-neighborless apartment. Further bolstering its party cred are an auto equalizer that adapts to musical genre; the Smart DJ system, which gives users the ability to add samples and other sound effects to music; and integrated LED lighting that changes to the beat of the music.
Inputs include standard CD tray and dual USB inputs. The USB inputs give the X Boom a couple neat tricks, including the Jukebox function, letting users create custom folders and playlists from a flash drive, while USB-to-USB recording lets users swap music with their friends. Twin jog-dials make navigating external files a breeze, and act as DJ mixers when the music’s bumping. And one feature we always love: the LG X Boom supports wireless streaming from any Bluetooth device, so you can go deaf to any song available via streaming services.
If you’re buying a TV for the Super Bowl, Abt has something to fit every budget and space requirement.
We probably don’t need to mention that The Super Bowl is mere days away. It’s a good bet that most of America will be tuning in, whether to watch a heroic battle between hotshot quarterbacks, the epic halftime show or dozens of legendary commercials. If you’ve been thinking of upgrading your TV set, there’s no better time than just before the Big Game. We had Steve P., one of our TV Sales Specialists, give us a run-down of some of the hottest TVs—at all sizes and price-points. So here’s our list of this year’s best Super Bowl TVs, whether you want to spend less than $500, or if money is no object.
The Samsung is our choice for entry-level flat panel TV especially suitable to sports fans. The 600hz subfield motion of the plasma panel displays video without the stuttering that occur when watching fast-motion on an LCD TV. The PN43E450 is a 720P TV, but At 43″ you won’t notice a difference. It’s big enough for a small football-viewing party, but still compact enough to fit in a small room, at a price so low you’ll think it’s a mistake. Call it the perfect dorm-room Super Bowl TV. We’ve heard about the newest high definition, 4K technology from Sony and LG. But Panasonic has decided to take the incredible high definition resolution, on the go. The new Panasonic 20-inch 4K tablet is poised to blow all existing tablets out of the water in terms of performance and visuals.
Check out our video of the Panasonic 20-inch 4K Tablet.
According to Panasonic, the screen displays images at a 3840 x 2560 resolution in a 15:10 aspect ratio. It uses a 1.8 Ghz Intel Corei5 processor to run applications smoothly on Windows 8 Pro, including Adobe Photoshop. The tablet will come with a special stylus, but navigating with your fingertips will work just as good.
I love the tablet i have already. I’m working my way though Game of Thrones on the e-book capabilities easily and conveniently. It’s interesting to see a tablet that is filled to the brim with power, be so large. As Josh says, it’s definitely not a tablet to cuddle up with and read a book, but professionals will adore the mobile capabilities. We’ll see how the typical tablet user responds to a behemoth of a tablet when it hits the market.
The Panasonic WT60 3D LED TV wraps a gorgeous IPS display in a stunning, nearly-invisible frame.
CES 2013—While CES 2013 is a great place to see manufacturers’ conceptual products, sometimes it gets frustrating to be bombarded by technology that we won’t see on the retail market for years, if ever. Panasonic, thankfully, had a booth full of stunning TVs that will be available this year. Our favorite was the flagship Panasonic WT60 LED TV.
With 47 and 55-inch models slated, the WT60 TVs won’t win any size battles. Instead, Panasonic will be loading the displays with enhanced features and an edgy design, which is a change from the company’s often uninspiring, though well-performing, plasma TVs.
Perched on a clear pedestal and wrapped in a minimalist bezel, the Panasonic WT60 TVs almost appear to be floating. The super-thin IPS panels provide a picture whose color and contrast rival plasma displays and maintain color fidelity across a 178° degree viewing angle. A 240 Hz refresh rate makes the WT60 Full HD 3D capable and, in combination with Panasonic’s new 4200 Back Light Scanning technology, keeps ghosting to a minimum. The BLS should also help improve black levels.
The WT60 Series are equipped with VIERA Connect, Panasonic’s smart-tv designation. In addition to now-standard TV features like app compatibility, VEIRA Connect will let you control the WT60 with your smartphone, or play compatible mobile games displayed on the TV. If you’d like to view photos on your WT60, Swipe and Share 2.0 lets you move content from your NFC-equipped smartphone to the TV with just a tap. We’re especially eager to try out Panasonic’s Voice Guidance and Voice Interaction. The former will read to you text displayed on the screen; the latter allows you to control the TV by speaking to it or into your remote.
Panasonic is sponsoring the US Women’s Soccer Team Victory Tour Match at Toyota Park and have offered our customers and staff a chance to win 4 tickets to their 10/19 5p practice and 10/20 5:30p game vs. Germany. The women’s team won Gold during the London Olympics.
Abt customers can enter either in-store at one of the Panasonic ballot boxes or visit http://www.abt.com/panasonic-soccer-sweepstakes. Four winners will be chosen to win 4 tickets to the practice and game.
