NBC 5 Taping

This morning, Abt’s very own Josh Davis went to the NBC studios to tape a segment for Weekend Web.  He focused on gearing up for the football season.  The products he highlighted were the Sony KDL40HX800 with a free 3D sync transmitter and 2 3D glasses; the Samsung PN50C450 which features a large screen for a great price; a Bose Cinemate GSII home theater system; a Bears’ themed iPad; Weber Q to maximize your tailgating experience; and the Cuisinart Popcorn Maker which is great for healthy snacks (in between pizza, wings and beer).  If you miss Josh’s spot on TV, the segment will be available online.  What do you think are some must have football gadgets?

Abe Explains 3D TV on NBC

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Tune in to NBC tonight at 5pm. Abe A., custom audio and video specialist will be answering all your 3D TV questions. This is the first year that TV programming and movies are available in your home, so there are a lot of unanswered questions about the new technology.

Here are the most frequently asked questions about 3D TV:

Q: If I buy a 3D TV today, can I watch 3D movies tonight?
A: You will need to have a 3D Blu-ray player, a 3D-ready HDMI cable, and 3D glasses to watch a 3D movie.

Q: How much will 3D TVs cost?
A: They will be in the same price range as other HD LCD TVs, HD LED, and HD plasma TVs.

Q: Can I watch TV in 3D?
A: ESPN is the first network to offer 3D programming; it will be available sometime in 2010.

Q: Will all the movies that I want to watch be in 3D?
A: There are 10-15 movies slated to be released in 3D Blu-ray by the end of 2010.

Q: What sizes are 3D TVs?
A: Currently, they are available in sizes ranging from 40”-65”.

Q: Does everyone have to wear the 3D glasses?
A: Yes. Without the glasses the movie will look blurry. You will not be able to view the movie or programming.

Q: Do the glasses come with the TV?
A: Not necessarily. Some manufacturers offer bundle deals. But they are normally sold separately.

Q: How much do the glasses cost?
A: The glasses range in price from $179-$249 each.

Q: Are all the glasses the same?
A: No. There are two types of 3D glasses, active and passive. The active glasses will connect to your TV via Bluetooth and require batteries while the passive glasses will be similar to the 3D glasses with one red lens and one blue or cyan lens.

Q: Can I use the HDMI cable that I have now for a new 3D TV?
A: There is a 50/50 chance that you can. If you have a high-quality HDMI 1.3 cable then you might be able to use it. 3D TVs and Blu-ray players require HDMI 1.4 cables. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to test the cable by plugging it in.

Abt has a Samsung 46” 3D TV on display in the showroom. For more information on 3D technology speak with an audio visual specialist at Abt today. Also check out the 3D TV buying guide on Abt.com.

Abt Electronics’ own Josh Davis spoke with NBC 5’s Marion Brooks Sunday morning on The Talk. The topic on the minds of so many shoppers? Cash for Appliances, the Government subsidized program for consumers to cut their energy bills and help save the environment at the same time.

The information we have so far…
-Starting at the end of January, there will be a 25% rebate on all Energy Star qualifying water heaters.
-Starting in April, cash for appliances will include all Energy Star qualifying washers, dryers, air conditioners, and refrigerators.

Illinois has $12 million government dollars for the Cash for Appliances program. The specifics for washers, air conditioners, and refrigerators have not been made public yet. The Cash for Appliances program will last until money runs out.
