The Sennheiser HE90 Headphones. This is what half my yearly salary sounds like.
CES 2013—We love CES because, much like our showroom, it’s a veritable playground for electronics that push the limit of quality and elegance, the results of a manufacturer sparing no expense in crafting the ultimate representation of its brand.
Case in point: the Sennheiser Orpheus HE90 headphones. Released in 1991, the HE90 were the result of Sennheiser challenging its engineers to create the greatest headphones ever, bar none. Every aspect was to be addressed: comfort, construction, and audio quality; a variety of exotic materials and esoteric methods, like the included vacuum-tube amp, were used to achieve that goal. The HE90 quickly became the stuff of legend, and many audiophiles still consider them the apex of headphone quality, offering a sound experience that only an uber-premium, analog set of headphones can. Reproducing an alleged frequency response of 7 to 100,000 Hz, the HE90 will put out sounds normally reserved for ultrasound machines, the Ghost of Michael Clarke Duncan, and blind crimefighter/Man Without Fear, Daredevil (whose movie starred the great Clarke Duncan). Yamaha will expand its selection of active soundbars, headphones and iPod/iPhone-docking tabletop audio systems at January’s International CES.
In headphones, the company launched its first model about a year and half ago and has since expanded the selection to five models, including four ear buds that come with multiple tip options to ensure a tight fit that is as effective in blocking noise as earbuds with active noise cancellation. In headphones, Yamaha will focus on delivering “high quality” rather than delivering endorsements from major artists.
Yamaha is also looking at creating a line of more affordable soundbars for consumers. In iPod/iPhone-docking tabletop music systems, Yamaha will further expand its already wide selection with changes in appearance. Look forward to seeing new things from Yamaha in early 2012 after CES 2012.
Polk Audio plans to add to its personal audio collection with a series of devices that will include desktop audio products, including a successor to the company’s discontinued I-Sonic tabletop entertainment system. The company’s personal audio products currently consist of its first six headphones launched in mid-year .
The I-Sonic 3 tabletop audio systemwill be available soon, according to Polk It will replace the out-of-production I-Sonic 2, which was a tabletop single-chassis HD Radio with iTunes Tagging, embedded iPod/iPhone dock, video output, and 360-degree stereo sound.
Referring to Polk’s entry into headphones, senior sales and marketing VP Ben Newhall cited the need to adapt to a changing market in which “consumers have radically changed the way they choose to listen to their music.” According to Newhall, headphones out-sell all types of traditional loudspeakers, including car and home theater.
Abt is pleased to announce the opening of the new Bose® room in our audio/video department. Like many of the trusted brands featured in our store, Abt has worked closely together with Bose for many years to create a tremendous shopping experience. This new Bose® area in our store does just that!
The new room features 20 Bose home theater and personal audio products on display, including the newest Lifestyle® home entertainment systems, the simpler 2.1 CineMate® home theater speaker systems, the SoundDock® family of products for iPods® and iPhones®, the Companion® line of computer speakers, and the brand new Bose IE2 and AE2 audio headphones.
Automated displays throughout the space allow Abt customers to explore independently, listen to music and movie demonstrations, and discover more about the product benefits – all with the simple push of a button. The room also allows for more personalized demonstrations with an Abt sales consultant in warm, home-like settings that combine the latest HDTVs, Bose systems, a variety of HD sources, and comfy leather seating.
A great product on display that I had the pleasure of trying out is Bose®’s new Lifestyle® V35 home entertainment system. Continuing the tradition of Bose®’s popular Lifestyle® systems, the V35 connects up to 6 HD components and upscales any non-HD video to 1080p! I was very impressed with its Unify™ technology system that easily guides any user while installing the unit to existing components. Even a novice would be able to set this up!
For more information, stop by Abt and take a tour of our newest remodel. Don’t forget to also check our full line of Bose® products .
