Com Ed and Abt: Working Overtime

Monday, July 25th, 2011

ComEd customer demand reached an all-time high peak usage milestone late Wednesday, with demand reaching 23,753 megawatts, exceeding the utility’s previous peak of 23,618 megawatts on Aug. 1, 2006.

With the increasing temperatures and wild storms, all of us here at Abt are putting in a little extra work too, and making sure our customers keep cool and their power stays on.  Our demand for air conditioners and generators have increased drastically the last week.  This extra work hasn’t slowed us down at all though.  “Sales are through the roof, trucks were making up to three pick ups a day”, said John Panchisin, Abt’s store manager.  Panchisin also added that his trucks have been picking up generators and AC units even in the middle of the night to keep up with demand.

If you are still looking for an A/C or need a generator to get your house back in working order, give us a  call at 888-228-5800 or shop our site.

Keep the Power with a Generator

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

The Chicagoland area was hit hard with a bad storm earlier this week and many households realized the importance of a generator.  I was one of them.  After having the power out for just shy of 24 hours, our generator saved all the food in our fridge, kept our sump pump working and even charged our cell phones to allow us to keep in contact with family and friends.

Abt has a great selection of generators from all sizes.  When the storm hits, make sure you are prepared.  Shop our line of Generators from Abt.

The Institute of Packaging Professionals visits Abt

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Tuesday evening, the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP), Chicago Chapter, toured Abt. The IoPP is a group, “dedicated to creating networking and educational opportunities that help packaging professionals succeed” (IoPP, 2010).

I spoke with Craig Jarvis, Senior Packaging Engineer at Pactiv, about what this group hopes to learn at Abt. He wanted to see “what we offer the industry along with getting a good feel for our inner workings.” Jarvis told me, “I’ve always wanted to stop in the store; it’s very unique.”

The IoPP began their tour in the Sony store with a talk from Jon Abt. He spoke about Abt’s history and about the business today. When Jon concluded the group went through our 300,000 square foot warehouse to the co-generator room, our on-site recycling center, and concluded their visit at Jolane’s Café.

Abt is proud to host businesses, educational, and leisure groups for tours. For more information on an Abt tour, contact Cari Boyk in customer service for more details.
