Recycle Old Goods For Gift Cards

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Even though Earth Week is coming to an end, Abt is eco-friendly every day. One of the lesser-known programs Abt participates in is super eco-friendly and has more to offer than just helping the environment. Abt is a proud participant in the CE Exchange. It’s a program for those with unwanted electronics who don’t just want to recycle or throw them away. It’s fast and easy to participate, just visit and begin the quick three step process.

The CE Exchange will appraise your electronics, send you a pre-paid mailing label, and when the item is received, they send you a gift card for use at Abt, in the amount that was appraised.

Currently, the CE exchange is accepting mp3 players, mobile phones, gaming systems, cameras, camcorders, computers, and GPS systems.

The process is simple, choose the category of the item that you would like to recycle, then locate the model and click on it. For instance if you are hoping to trade in your iPhone, go to the phones category, pick Apple (manufacturer), then locate the model number of the phone (2G-3GS), just click on the model and see what it’s worth. After you complete the process and send in the item it will be processed, and a gift card will be mailed. Local customers can complete the process in the showroom and qualify for an immediate gift card.

For more information on CE Exchange, speak with an Abt customer service specialist today.

Gadget Buying Made Simple

Monday, December 14th, 2009

This morning, Josh Davis, of Abt Electronics, did a featured segment for You & Me This Morning with Jeanne Sparrow, on WCIU—channel 26. He explained that gadgets and electronics do not have to be intimidating.

Giving gadgets for Christmas is simple and less expensive than ever before, Josh explains. The Bumblebee Bluetooth headset is just $9.99. In previous years, a Bluetooth headset cost anywhere from $50-$100.

Another great, inexpensive gift idea from Abt is the iPod Shuffle. At only $59.00 it can be a great present or stocking-stuffer. The Shuffle can hold 500 songs and the headphones talk, giving the listener information about the song they are listening to.

Digital cameras are a hot gift for the holiday season too. Josh tells me they have really gone down in price. The 12 megapixel Olympus FE-26 is only $82 at Another great camera option is the Sony Webbie. It is both an HD digital camera and video recorder for $129.

Shocking to many, Blu-ray disc players have dropped in price dramatically. Onkyo has Blu-ray players for $124 and up, Sony and LG have models for $149 and up, Panasonic and Toshiba Blu-rays start at $159, and Samsung players start at $159.

If you still need gift ideas or electronics are still intimidating, call Abt or visit and speak with a sales specialist for advice.

Protect Your Purchase

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Abt warranties are an important part of every purchase. They will protect your appliance or electronic after the manufacturers warranty is long gone. Ideally, nothing will ever go wrong with your purchase, but that’s not always the case. Many times you will run into difficulty and not want to be faced with the cost of a service call.

After speaking with Steve P., an internet sales specialist, he let me know that the warranty for many products costs less than a service call. It pays to have the warranty because parts can be expensive. When you have the Abt warranty, you will not have to incur the extra cost for parts if they become necessary.

Rafael P., another internet sales specialist conveyed that it’s always reassuring to have the “peace of mind” that the warranty brings. Knowing that many people don’t have the extra money that they used to due to the country’s economic condition, paying for service is one less thing to worry about.

Any of the internet sales, phone sales, or in-store sales specialists can guide you through the warranty buying process. A great benefit to the Abt warranty is that you will never have to manage paperwork. Both Abt and the warranty company keep detailed records of your purchase and warranty; eliminating the fear of losing valuable paperwork. Call or come in and speak with someone about an Abt warranty for your next purchase.

Abt’s Back to School Products are Head of Their Class

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Abt found the coolest products to get any student ready for the school year.

The Garmin Nuvi 205 GPS will get you back to school—without too many detours. It’s great for college because of its anti-theft feature, battery life, and touch-screen capabilities.

“Computer sales are up in the store right now because they are becoming more affordable and students need them for college. Now is the perfect time to buy a laptop,” according to Winnie in the Sony Store.

A new laptop is a fun way to start a school year. Abt carries a variety of portable computers ranging from Apple to Sony. Perfect for a college student, the Asus laptop is affordable and comes preconfigured with the Windows operating system—ready to go right out of the box! We also carry stylish and functional laptop bags. When I asked David, from small electronics, what is the most popular back to school electronic, he responded, “Laptops. Macs and Sonys. We have the absolute essentials for back to school college students, like laptops, mini-fridges, and small electronics. I just quoted a price on a Sony laptop for a first-time student going to Dayton.”

Abt put some thought into making college eating healthier. We found some small appliances for dorms and apartments that will make cooking easy—even for a busy college student. Cuisinart makes a line of easy-to-use appliances like egg cookers, sandwich makers, and slow cookers that will keep any student well-fed. Looking for a healthy option? The Breville HealthSmart Food Steamer is a must buy. Waring makes a professional waffle maker—a personal favorite. Don’t forget to check out an Avanti, under the counter refrigerator—a perfect place to chill leftovers so they don’t end up looking like a science experiment.

A messy dorm is easy to find on any campus. Electrolux makes a 2-In-1 lightweight upright vacuum, perfect for a dorm or apartment. Having an easy-to-use vacuum around should be the motivation needed to keep any study space clean. Did you know that GE made a portable dishwasher?

College isn’t all about class, studying, and eating. Check out the LG 32″ LCD flat panel HDTV, the Nintendo Wii, and the Samsung 5.1-channel home theater system.

Capturing college memories is a must! Canon Power shot is a great camera, small enough for pockets and most purses—definitely backpacks.

Abt is the first place students (or their parents) need to stop before heading back to school. Preparation is the key to success and we will take care of all a students needs. To see all the great back to school gadgets, click here. – Kelly B.

Abt Electronics On Fox News Regarding State of Durable Good Economy

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

There have been many discussions on the news regarding consumer buying confidence and its relation to the current state of the stock market. On Wednesday, July 29th, the Commerce Department released data that showed new durable goods orders fell 2.5% in June, which is the largest percentage drop since January, after rising in May. However, if you take away the transportation (aircrafts, cars, and boats) sector, orders were actually up 1.1% in June. This was the largest advance in four months!

The next day, Fox News came in to Abt Electronics to find out how sales and buying confidence were doing. Fox chose Abt because we are one of the largest, single-store retailers in the country. Carina Soon spoke with Jon Abt and General Manager Marc Cook about how business is going and if we had been impacted by the down economy. As with most businesses, certain departments have decreased in sales. But unlike those businesses, our main store has seen an increase in sales. This tells us that even when the stock market is facing hardships, our core values are what keep our customers coming back. “Everyday low prices, wide selection, free shipping and quality service.” – Jenn A.
