According to the National Retail Federation, back-to-school spending on CE and computers is expected to increase 12 percent to nearly $7.2 billion this year. The industry trade group based its projection on an annual consumer survey, conducted by BIGresearch, showing that families with kids in grades K-12 plan to spend an average of $189.51 on computers, cellphones, MP3 players, tablets and other devices, up from $181.61 last year.
If you have a student heading back to school soon, visit Abt.com or a full line of great back-to-school items beyond just computers. From alarm clocks, to iPods, to fridges for dorms, we have everything to make the school year a bit easier.
Our fleet departments had a meeting the other morning with the Abt family to get ready for the summer. Our fleet, which includes deliverymen, installers and servicemen all went over preparations for dealing with a potential greuling summer and how to continue providing customer satisfaction. With 240 trucks in the fleet and 210 going out at any given day, making 1,000 stops a day, our staff works from 5-6 days a week, sometimes 12 hours a day. When it comes to deliveries and service calls, our staff does not come back to the store until everything has been done to finish the job.
If you are planning on getting an item serviced or making a purchase from Abt and are in the Chicagoland area, rest assured, your products both new and old, are in good hands.

According to the Consumer Electronics Association, that while all around holiday-gift shopping sales might drop this year approximately 2% per person, the purchasing of consumer electronics is expected to rise by 5% per person.
Could this prediction come from the new releases of exciting items such as iPads and 3D TVs? Perhaps. What do you think?
Do you have old documents, computers, printers, or electronics that you would like to dispose of, but don’t know how?
This Saturday, June 26, the Better Business Bureau will be hosting a “Shred Event” as well as safe disposal of unwanted electronics.
Because the BBB is hosting the event, you can be sure that all your old equipment and documents will be disposed of according to the department of defense’s guidelines. You can rest assured that even your computer will be “cleaned” properly.
The “Shred Event” will be from 9-2 at the United Center in Chicago. Eight shredding trucks will be on hand in lot E.
Even though Earth Week is coming to an end, Abt is eco-friendly every day. One of the lesser-known programs Abt participates in is super eco-friendly and has more to offer than just helping the environment. Abt is a proud participant in the CE Exchange. It’s a program for those with unwanted electronics who don’t just want to recycle or throw them away. It’s fast and easy to participate, just visit http://www.abt.com/Abt_CExchange.php3 and begin the quick three step process.
The CE Exchange will appraise your electronics, send you a pre-paid mailing label, and when the item is received, they send you a gift card for use at Abt, in the amount that was appraised.
The process is simple, choose the category of the item that you would like to recycle, then locate the model and click on it. For instance if you are hoping to trade in your iPhone, go to the phones category, pick Apple (manufacturer), then locate the model number of the phone (2G-3GS), just click on the model and see what it’s worth. After you complete the process and send in the item it will be processed, and a gift card will be mailed. Local customers can complete the process in the showroom and qualify for an immediate gift card.

This morning, Josh Davis, of Abt Electronics, did a featured segment for You & Me This Morning with Jeanne Sparrow, on WCIU—channel 26. He explained that gadgets and electronics do not have to be intimidating.
Giving gadgets for Christmas is simple and less expensive than ever before, Josh explains. The Bumblebee Bluetooth headset is just $9.99. In previous years, a Bluetooth headset cost anywhere from $50-$100.
Another great, inexpensive gift idea from Abt is the iPod Shuffle. At only $59.00 it can be a great present or stocking-stuffer. The Shuffle can hold 500 songs and the headphones talk, giving the listener information about the song they are listening to.
Digital cameras are a hot gift for the holiday season too. Josh tells me they have really gone down in price. The 12 megapixel Olympus FE-26 is only $82 at abt.com. Another great camera option is the Sony Webbie. It is both an HD digital camera and video recorder for $129.
Shocking to many, Blu-ray disc players have dropped in price dramatically. Onkyo has Blu-ray players for $124 and up, Sony and LG have models for $149 and up, Panasonic and Toshiba Blu-rays start at $159, and Samsung players start at $159.
If you still need gift ideas or electronics are still intimidating, call Abt or visit Abt.com and speak with a sales specialist for advice.
