With 37 acres and 1,100 employed experts, Abt has an unbelievably massive amount of knowledge on-hand about anything and everything we have on our shelves. Whether you need help installing your dishwasher, setting up your surround sound or configuring your wireless home network, the Abt experts are at your disposal.

The problem is, not everyone can make into our beautiful store and take advantage of the genius within, so it’s our goal at the Abt Blog to bring you the information you want, how you want it, when you want it. Forbes Praises Independent Retailers

Sunday, October 30th, 2011 released an article about the benefits a consumer has while shopping at an independent retailer over a “big box” chain store.  “New research shows that where once shoppers would research items online and then buy in stores, the opposite is now true. Consumers are using physical stores as showrooms and then buying online to save a few bucks”, Forbes mentions.

While this may cause problems for big box stores, it is beneficial for independent stores.  Independent retailers, like Abt.  We strive for excellent customer service and complete satisfaction.  With the upcoming holidays approaching, be certain you will find the lowest prices, best selection, all with a personal touch you won’t find anywhere else.

Have you ever seen this icon Live Chatand wonder what it is? Live chat is a cool way to contact a Live Sales or Customer Service person via your computer. They are there to answer any questions you may have in regard to placing an order or for an order already placed. The Sales department on Live Chat can answer just about any question you may have about the many products we have on our website. They cannot take an order via Live Chat but can help in placing an order via Live Chat. Our Customer Service on Live chat can help answer just about any question you may have about an order you may have placed. Unfortunately, at this time they are unable to take Live Chat requests for Appliance or Electronics Service. For that you would need to contact them via the phone at 847-967-8830.

Our appliance service department was pleased to find out our technicians did a great job on a recent repair visit.  We get numerous calls during the week from customers. Some good, some bad.  We always appreciate customers who take time out in their day to notify the managers that our employees did a great job.

Earlier this week, one family did just that and a little more.  Our service technicians Jerry and Emmett fixed an appliance that had been causing difficulties for the family.  After visit and a little tinkering with the unit, everything was working just fine.  The family was very grateful and their young daughters went ahead and custom made necklaces for the drivers as a “thank you”.

As a family-owned company, we always have a special place in our heart for helping customers as if they are a member of our own family.  Thanks to the girls for the great looking necklaces and we hope everything continues to work wonderfully.

This week results of the e-tailing group’s 13th Annual Mystery Shopping Study names Abt Electronics as one of the Top 9 best online customer service.  They conducted secret shopping of 100 online merchants. The explanation that, “These merchants understand that efficiency and convenience are essential to deliver a best-in-class online shopping experience” was part of the the result for our belonging in the  Top 9.  We were even voted with higher customer satisfaction than larger retail sites like and

Spooktacular Sunday at Abt

This past Sunday, our monthly Kids Day got a bit spooky.  Decorations were scattered around our atrium, and kids were able to craft their own Halloween bracelets, trick or treat bags, pumpkin picture frames and get their faces painted with designs of ghosts, goblins and more.  For the first time ever kids were able to jump on a custom hay-ride where Farmer Brown took them around our entire atrium.

If you weren’t able to make it out this weekend, don’t worry.  The Kids Day event is held once a month and there are some exciting plans in the works.  Customer Service Manager Cari Boyk gave me a sneak peek at what lies in the future, “The kids really liked the hay ride.  I’m thinking if Santa lets us, we’ll be able to borrow his sled next time,” she said.  Either way, you can be sure there will be festive treats in the upcoming Kids Days of 2010.

Abt's Number One Goal

If you’re a native to the Chicagoland area, you will probably know the name Roy Leonard. Roy was the radio host for WGN’s mid-day radio show for 31 years and is considered on one of Chicago’s most trusted voices. He has interviewed entertainment stars such as Sophia Loren, Sylvester Stallone, Bette Midler, Paul McCartney and more. He has a blog where he talks about his past experiences with these celebrities and also what is going on in his life at the moment.

So it was an honor to have him mention Abt in his July 4th blog “Retail service hasn’t vanished. You just have to look for it.” Roy talks about his experience as a long time Abt customer and cites a built-in air conditioner installation as an example of Abt’s service.  He tells his readers how removing the old unit wasn’t easy for our installers, but they were able to get the job done. However, the install wasn’t complete. Our installers wanted to make sure the outside frame wasn’t damaged (turns out they had to replace it) and actually painted the frame to match the trim. All this for no additional charge.

At Abt, customer satisfaction is our number one goal. It has been since David and Jewel Abt opened the doors at the first Abt location in 1936. I’m sure that Roy isn’t the only Abt customer who has experienced our above and beyond service. Let us know about your experiences! Abt's Drivers Discuss Customer Service!

Abt has over 250 staff members working in the field, including delivery crews, service techs, custom audio video installers, etc… These groups make over a thousand calls into customer’s homes each day. This morning, there was an unannounced meeting for them in our atrium. The meeting covered customer feedback, general policies, and ways to ensure that Abt’s goal of complete customer satisfaction is met every time they step into your home.
