Abt @ CES 2012: Ultrabooks, Computers, Tablet docks, Robots & Bears, Oh My!

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Samsung continued their CES exhibit with some nifty new gadgets.  The first was their super-slim Ultrabook.  At just over half an inch thick, this laptop is super powered in the smallest of packages.

Next is the new series of the Samsung Chrome.  Samsung is revamping its first-gen Series 5 with a new model.  Starting with the Chromebook, it trades its slick cover for something of a 12.1 inch matte finish, with more discreet logo placement. On the inside,  it steps up from Atom to Celeron, while the storage capacity remains fixed at 16GB.  Look for it sometime in the second quarter.

The new docking station from Samsung is the perfect partner for your Samsung Galaxy Tablet.  Sleek in design with an incredible booming sound.

Got a dirty room?  Samsung is all over it.  Their new robo-cleaner at CES 2012, showed off its cleaning and sensory skills.

Abt @ CES 2012: Samsung Wows With Displays, Gadgets and More!

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

As usual, Samsung goes all out when showing off their products to consumers at CES 2012.  The above image is what Samsung rolled out for their entrance to their exhibit.  Looks larger than life.

Samsung shows off this incredible display composed of dozens of their flat-screen TVs.  They definitely spared no expense with this one.

The new Samsung Ultimate TV  Super OLED Sensation is incredibly thin you can barely see it.  Hopefully there isn’t a brisk wind in the convention center, or this one is down for the count.

Samsung also showed off their Ultrabook with this super blinged out model.  This is in extremely small quantities.  Sure to please any gaudy-loving computer user.

Abt @ CES 2012: A Global Event

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

As one makes their way through the throngs of booths, gadget prototypes, beautiful spokes models, SWAG and row after row of glaring lights and signs, few people get to see the inner machinations of what CES is all about.   Jon Abt found his way into what he called an “information hub” where dozens and dozens of people from around the world frantically make calls, dial their smartphones and type furiously at their keyboard sharing and sending every juicy bit of information they are collecting.

The event is much more than just a sneak-peek at the upcoming electronics of 2012, but a glimpse of the excitement passionate individuals have about their products and the industry as a whole.

Abt @ CES 2012: Sony Glasses-Free 3D TV

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

Looking to get a 3D TV, but don’t like having to wear clunky 3D glasses?  Sony has just the solution for you: a glasses-free 3D TV.  Jon Abt saw various models of what Sony has to offer, but he preferred the smaller screens compared to the larger ones.  Since it is newer technology, Sony may need to figure out all the bells and whistles, but glasses-free 3D TVs are a great idea.  Hopefully it will be perfected soon and viewers can immerse themselves in an amazing cinematic experience.

This image does not fully represent 3D TV screen.

Abt @ CES 2012: Sony Google TV Streamer and Blu-ray Player

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

A glimpse of one of the many trends hitting CES 2012 is the advances TV technology presented by Sony.  Sony announced an updated version of its Google TV-powered Blu-ray player, the NSZGP9, as well as their first ever Google TV set-top box, the NSZGS7.

As you can see, the Blu-ray design is different that Sony’s model from last year, the NSZGT1.  That model, while still available, offered a bulkier look and and somewhat complicated remote.  Speaking of remote, it seems that they have upgraded the newer remote that comes with the Google Blu-ray player.  It  supports gestures via three-axis motion control. There’s also a touch pad on the front, plus a back-lit keyboard on the back.

CES 2012: The Leading Trends

Monday, January 9th, 2012

The first news buzz out of CES from our Abt Representatives are incoming trends to look forward as 2012 rolls out.   A few that CES 2012 has already showcased, are the increase of tablets, easier ways to stream multimedia to your TV, Ultrabooks and the influx of slimmer TVs.

Another interesting trend are “connected cars”.  There will be technology on display such as the OTOCAM3 from Advent that connects to Pandora through iPhones and includes iGo Primo navigation software, Navteq US and Canada maps and a Parrot module built-in with an external microphone. The whole system is steered through an eight-inch touchscreen and can hook up with vehicle metrics like fuel mileage and tire pressure.
