Spooktacular Sunday at Abt

Monday, October 11th, 2010

This past Sunday, our monthly Kids Day got a bit spooky.  Decorations were scattered around our atrium, and kids were able to craft their own Halloween bracelets, trick or treat bags, pumpkin picture frames and get their faces painted with designs of ghosts, goblins and more.  For the first time ever kids were able to jump on a custom hay-ride where Farmer Brown took them around our entire atrium.

If you weren’t able to make it out this weekend, don’t worry.  The Kids Day event is held once a month and there are some exciting plans in the works.  Customer Service Manager Cari Boyk gave me a sneak peek at what lies in the future, “The kids really liked the hay ride.  I’m thinking if Santa lets us, we’ll be able to borrow his sled next time,” she said.  Either way, you can be sure there will be festive treats in the upcoming Kids Days of 2010.

Wilmette Kids Have Fun At Abt

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

The Wilmette Park District Kindergarten Enrichment Program visited Abt today. This group of 5 and 6-year-olds are well traveled. They go on two field trips per week, visiting local businesses and attractions like The Grove in Glenview and Make-A-Messterpiece in the Glen.

The 19 kindergartners were escorted around Abt by Ara B. He showed them some of Abt’s fun, kid-friendly interactive displays. The kids started their day at Abt looking at the 5,381 pound granite ball next to electronics service. The ball floats on water making it possible for a child as small as a 4-year-old capable of spinning and stopping the massive ball.

Next, the kids went to the 7,500 gallon aquarium, home to many colorful fish and eel. After visiting the fish, the group went to Abt’s atrium. There the kids got to see the fountain’s dancing waters, the mousetrap, the butterflies, and then each child was surrounded by a giant bubble in the bubble machine.

Before concluding their visit at Abt, the kids stopped at the security office to get a behind the scenes look at the store and then walk through the metal detectors. Before heading out the kids enjoyed a sweet snack with Ara.

Hersey High School Students Tour Abt

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Friday, a group of 10 Hersey High School special education students, accompanied by three of their teachers, spent the day at Abt. They are participants in a career track program Hersey offers to students who plan to begin working right after graduation or attend a two-year, career oriented school.

On the minds of many of these students is the culinary program at Harper College. Many of the student participants currently take food classes at Harper in hopes of having a food service career after program completion. The students’ day at Abt began at Jolane’s where they got a tour of the restaurant, got to set a table for lunch service, and eat their choice of chopped salad, grilled cheese and fries, or mini burgers and fries. Three of the students even took orders and entered them into the computer, to get some experience at using a restaurant point of service computer.

Abt and the Pink Heals Tour–One Night Only

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Life Source, the Glenview Fire Department, and Abt are teaming up to beat cancer by bringing the Pink Heals Tour to our Parking lot today between 6 and 10 p.m. This cross country tour has been raising money and taking blood donations to support women and all patients with cancer.

All registered donors for the event will be entered in a raffle and receive a commemorative T-shirt in honor of the event. Steve Shapiro, K.C. Carr, and Cari Boyk will be representing Abt at the event and handing out pink ribbon stress balls.

As Steve and I were discussing the Life Source-Abt partnership, he said that we were proud to team up with the largest blood center in Illinois. We have had a long standing relationship with them doing other promotions in the past. Tonight before the tour leaves, Life Source will present Jon Abt with a plaque to thank Abt for its partnership with the Pink Heals Tour.

After donating blood for a worthy cause, visit the Abt Design Center. To support the Pink Heals Tour, all of the stores will have special promotions such as Jolane’s two-for-one dinner options.

Kids Ruled the Day at Abt

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Sunday, August 23, 2009 Abt Electronics hosted our 6th Kids Day, and what a success it was! The turn out was amazing. We scheduled the event from 12-4 with crafts and goodies planned for all who attended. According to Cari Boyk, the Customer Service Manager the event drew over 160 kids from all over the area. She said we ran out of goodie bags by 3:30. For the next event we can only plan to have more on hand! Kids enjoyed drawing, crafting, and snacking with employees from the Glenview library and Abt.

Event participants even got the chance to enjoy some of our kid-sized leather recliners when they wanted to sit back and enjoy some of the books on hand. If you missed Kids Day this time… Don’t worry, there’s always next year. It will be better than ever!
