Don’t Forget The Small Stuff

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

While Abt is normally the place that first comes to mind for large item purchases, such as appliances and televisions, don’t forget that we carry smaller, everyday essentials as well.

If you are going on vacation this summer, you may need an extra memory card or battery for your camera so you can capture all of the memories. We also carry cases for cameras & camcorders to protect and store those items on your trip.

For cell phones, we carry cases, car chargers, and Bluetooth headsets to make your day go smoother.

To protect your new laptop or netbook, we carry cases, mouses (mice!), and even blank cds/dvds for extra storage or to create a photo album of your latest adventure.

Do you need HDMI cables or a screen cleaner for that new big screen? We’ve got plenty of those as well.

And finally with appliances, we stock all the major manufacturers’ water filters for your refrigerator as well as specialty cleaners and surge protectors to protect those new appliances and televisions.

Remember that no matter if your need is large or small, Abt has it all.

Abt's Frequently Asked Questions

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

I recently spoke to the internet sales specialists at Abt, and I asked them what customers most frequently asked when they called in… I was surprised to hear that they all received the same questions repeatedly. So, I thought I would take a minute to post the most commonly asked questions and an answer to them.

Most Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Do you price match?
Yes, Abt price matches with authorized dealers of products. Usually authorized sellers appear on the manufacturer’s brand page. If you have trouble locating that information, just give us a call and we can assist you with determining if the store you would like to price match is an authorized seller.

2. What are Abt’s store hours?
Abt’s store hours are located here.

3. Where is Abt located, and when I call in am I speaking to someone at that location?
Abt’s directions and directions are available here.

4. What are Abt’s delivery areas?
Abt delivers and does service within 100 miles of the store. Here is a delivery and service map:

5. How can I tell which water filter is right for my refrigerator?
If you have purchased a refrigerator in the past 6-12 months, then you can simply go on Abt.com and look for accessories under the manufacturer of the refrigerator and the correct filter will be listed. If you have a model that is over a year old, you can call an Abt sales specialist for assistance in finding the filter for you.

6. How much is shipping on my item? You can calculate the shipping cost for your item(s) on Abt.com. For example, look at the image below. The customer is buying a large microwave to be shipped to Los Angeles, CA. You will input your zip code and shipping will be calculated for you. Abt offers free shipping on thousands of items throughout the store.

7. Do I have to pay tax? Only if you are a resident of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, or Wisconsin you will have to pay the tax for your state.
Illinois: 9.75%
Indiana: 7%
Michigan: 6%
Wisconsin: 5.1%-5.5% depending on the county in which you reside.

8. Are the product that you sell new or refurbished?
Abt sell new products as well as floor models, otherwise known as open box. If you are looking for an open box item, you may request that, otherwise you are going to get a new item.

9. Why can’t you ship Wolf, Sub-Zero, GE Monogram, Kitchen Aid, Viking, Thermador, GE Café, and Jenn Air products to me?
Abt is bound to a contract with the manufacturers of those products. Based on the contract, you can purchase Kitchen Aid products on-line, but they can only be shipped within 100 miles of the store. Likewise, the other brands have restricted delivery areas, but can’t be purchased on-line.

Wolf, Sub-zero, Kitchen Aid, Viking, and Thermador can be shipped to a 100 mile radius of the store, see map below:

Jenn Air can be shipped to a 150-mile radius, see map below:

GE Monogram and GE Café can be shipped to Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, and Kentucky, see map below:

10. What is 3D and how can I get it?
3D is the latest TV technology and anyone can get it at home. You will need a few necessary components that can make 3D in your living room a reality: a 3D or 3D-ready TV, 3D compatible HDMI cables, a 3D Blu-ray player, a 3D satellite or cable box, and 3D active shutter glasses. For more information on 3D technology, take a look at the 3D guide on Abt.com.

Get to Abt to Save 15%

Friday, April 16th, 2010

The Energy Star rebate program is in full swing. After the busiest morning in Abt history, the store is still full of people ready to get their hands on a new Energy Star appliance.

Right now there is still stimulus money available but we are hesitant to think money will be available after 5 pm. So, if you are in the market for a new appliance, come on in, while the money is available.
To accommodate those who weren’t able to get into the store today, Abt will continue giving 15% off most products for the next few days.

Abt Discusses Appliance Rebate Program on ABC7

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Monday morning, ABC 7 News visited Abt to discuss the stimulus program for appliances, beginning Friday. Illinois received $12 million for Energy Star qualifying hot water heaters, central air conditioners, furnaces, and appliances.

The rebate began for hot water heaters, central air conditioners, and furnaces on January 31st of this year. Half of the stimulus money has already been doled out.

Beginning this Friday, April 16, any in-store purchase of Energy Star qualified clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, and room air conditioners from participating retailers will be eligible for a rebate. The rebate program ends April 25th or when the funds run out.

The Illinois government has imposed a cap on the rebate program. A maximum rebate of $400 per appliance will be allowed. Prior to the new rebate cap, 15% of the cost of the appliance was going to be reimbursed. The change will enable more people to participate in the program and the funding will reach more participants. This will ensure that high-end appliance purchases will not deplete the funds too quickly.

There are a couple of ways to participate in the rebate program. You will automatically receive your rebate on Energy Star qualifying appliances at the point-of-purchase. There is an additional $75 mail-in-rebate exists for those who opt to recycle old refrigerators and freezers.

The recycling rebate must be filled out and mailed in. Those who elect to recycle their old refrigerators and freezers will pay the $29-$49 Abt fee and then they will receive the $75 after the rebate is processed.

Protect Your Purchase

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Abt warranties are an important part of every purchase. They will protect your appliance or electronic after the manufacturers warranty is long gone. Ideally, nothing will ever go wrong with your purchase, but that’s not always the case. Many times you will run into difficulty and not want to be faced with the cost of a service call.

After speaking with Steve P., an internet sales specialist, he let me know that the warranty for many products costs less than a service call. It pays to have the warranty because parts can be expensive. When you have the Abt warranty, you will not have to incur the extra cost for parts if they become necessary.

Rafael P., another internet sales specialist conveyed that it’s always reassuring to have the “peace of mind” that the warranty brings. Knowing that many people don’t have the extra money that they used to due to the country’s economic condition, paying for service is one less thing to worry about.

Any of the internet sales, phone sales, or in-store sales specialists can guide you through the warranty buying process. A great benefit to the Abt warranty is that you will never have to manage paperwork. Both Abt and the warranty company keep detailed records of your purchase and warranty; eliminating the fear of losing valuable paperwork. Call or come in and speak with someone about an Abt warranty for your next purchase.

Add It Up, Energy Star Numbers Don't Lie

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Take $680 off your annual energy bills plus spend half of what you’ve been spending on the energy to power your refrigerator, and 10% less on air conditioning. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Joe Klett, a manager at Abt electronics, has recently pointed out that’s all possible—just by switching out old energy-sucking appliances, and buying new Energy Star appliances. According to Klett, appliances account for 17 percent of the energy consumed in homes each year. Can you imagine on top of that, 75 percent of the energy used by home electrics are burned when they are powered off, but left plugged in. Sounds like throwing money away to me.

Klett points out that Energy Star appliances help save consumers money. Energy Star was a program born of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U. S. Department of Energy to help everyone save money as well as benefit the environment. According to Energystar.org, “Results are already adding up. Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved enough energy in 2008 alone to avoid greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 29 million cars — all while saving $19 billion on their utility bills.”

Abt carries various Energy Star appliances and we have many highly-educated appliance specialists. Come in and check out all of our environmentally (and wallet) friendly Energy Star appliances!

Abt Electronics On Fox News Regarding State of Durable Good Economy

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

There have been many discussions on the news regarding consumer buying confidence and its relation to the current state of the stock market. On Wednesday, July 29th, the Commerce Department released data that showed new durable goods orders fell 2.5% in June, which is the largest percentage drop since January, after rising in May. However, if you take away the transportation (aircrafts, cars, and boats) sector, orders were actually up 1.1% in June. This was the largest advance in four months!

The next day, Fox News came in to Abt Electronics to find out how sales and buying confidence were doing. Fox chose Abt because we are one of the largest, single-store retailers in the country. Carina Soon spoke with Jon Abt and General Manager Marc Cook about how business is going and if we had been impacted by the down economy. As with most businesses, certain departments have decreased in sales. But unlike those businesses, our main store has seen an increase in sales. This tells us that even when the stock market is facing hardships, our core values are what keep our customers coming back. “Everyday low prices, wide selection, free shipping and quality service.” – Jenn A.
