When running an award winning, successful retail store in Chicago with your family, anything goes.  The Chicago Tribune stopped by Abt Electronics the other day and profiled the Abt Brothers in their “Office Space” section.

Working with your brothers in such close quarters can lead to some interesting moments.  ”I come in here some mornings, the door’s shut, and I open it up and one of my brothers is in here doing something,” said Jon Abt, co-president of Abt Electronics.  ”People come in here for changing their hearing aid battery, changing their clothes,” added Mike Abt, the co-president who shares the office with Jon.

Today marks the 10^th anniversary of our retail store in Glenview, IL.  This store is currently the fifth location we’ve opened with previous locations being held in Chicago, Niles and  Morton Grove.  Each move has offered Abt Electronics the opportunity to expand and try new things.  Our current location is an exemplification of brilliant business ethics, mixed with pure passion and enthusiasm for the work that is put into this building every day.

Executives from Sharp Electronics were doing a weeklong tour of some key retail stores in the area that sell their Sharp products.  Showing up at Abt Electronics earlier this week, they were treated to our wide display of flat-panel TVs as well as many other Sharp products.  Sharp came in to also go over upcoming new products and technology as well as collect feedback on how the brand is doing at Abt.

Abt Electronics hosts numerous field trips throughout the year.  From Kindergartners enjoying a tour which includes a stop at the bubble machine in our atrium, to manufacturer representatives visiting us for the first time, Abt’s tours bring a smile to people of all ages.  Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a field trip for a visiting 8th grade class from Elm Place Middle School in Highland Park.
