Happy Holidays and Happy New Year from all of us at Abt!
2014 is Abt’s 78th year in business. After all that time, we’re still family-owned and operated, and still committed to giving our customers the best service possible. While we often get congratulated on these points, the truth is that we wouldn’t be where we are today without our customers. So, twice a year, we hold our Customer Appreciation Sale as a way to thank everyone who’s supported us over the years. Today marked the start of the sale, with prices reduced on thousands of products throughout the store. You’ll have to act fast, because the sale lasts only through this weekend. Stop by in person, or if you’d prefer to avoid the crowds, shop the entire sale online at the Abt Customer Appreciation Sale. And once again, a resounding “Thank You!” to all of you who’ve helped us get this far.
Spring Break is around the corner and for many, that means traveling and enjoying warm weather. Abt has round up a variety of products that are excellent for all of your spring break needs. Whether you like to relax and listen to music on the beach, or need some great accessories to bring your favorite items to your vacation location. Shop Abt’s Spring Break Items for our full selection!
It’s that time of year again. March 9th is Daylight Savings Time. It begins at 2:00 am Sunday morning. We spring ahead and, unfortunately, lose an hour. While it stinks to lose some sleep, this only means that Spring is around the corner! Don’t forget to set your clocks forward Saturday night.
If there are two things Abt loves helping our customers do, they’re cooking and entertaining. After all, probably 90% of the products we carry are used for one of those two activities. And no other single day combines these two joys more than that special Sunday when the two best teams in the NFL square off in the biggest football game of the year. Take a group of family and friends and place them in front of a big screen TV and a bigger spread of hearty, spicy, cheesy treats and you’re guaranteed to have a good time. If your team happens to be competing, all the better.
This is more like it. Should’t have posted this on an empty stomach…
While we won’t have a Bear in the fight (so to speak), we’ll still be partying it up next Sunday. And in anticipation of the Big Game, early next week we’ll be featuring tips on the Abt Blog that will help you have the best Super Sunday ever, from recipes for easy-to-prepare finger foods to expert tips on how to make sure your TV is best setup for an action-packed football game. We’ll even be accepting photo submissions for our Best Big Game Party. So stay tuned for all kinds of fun with football and food!

Until now, due to the superiority of the picture, Panasonic’s PDPs [plasma display panels] have received high appraisal and there has been firm demand from customers worldwide. However, due to rapid, drastic changes in the business environment and a declining demand for PDP in the flat panel display market, it was judged that continuing the business would be difficult and a decision was made to stop production.
The company will end sales of plasma TVs for consumer use and PDP-related products for commercial use, such as Interactive Plasma Displays, with the products for FY 2014 (ending March 31, 2014).
Panasonic has made plasma televisions since 2000. But the shift toward LCD for large-sized displays as well as small and medium-sized ones, have changed consumer interests. Abt Electronics still has a variety of great Panasonic Plasma models, even the award winning Panasonic Plasma ST60 series models.
One of the latest additions to our product selection, and one that’s got our audio guys really excited, is our new collection of speakers from Bowers & Wilkins. B&W Speakers(as they’re known to their fans) are some of the most highly-rated speakers available today. One of the progenitors of audiophile-level speakers, B&W have continuously put out innovative products that have won over the hearts and ears of audio fanatics the world over. B&W equipment can be found in the most prestigious studios in the professional audio industry, including George Lucas’s Skywalker Sound and the storied Abbey Road Studios in London.
WGN-TV Chicago reporter Marcus Leshock, who covers Chicago’s most interesting cultural and social offerings, swung by Abt a few days ago to give viewers a glimpse of some epic Father’s Day gifts. While we mentioned yesterday that plenty of Dads would be happy to just have a fun Father’s Day with their loved ones in lieu of a gift, we’re also pretty sure that most Dads wouldn’t refuse an 85″ Samsung 4K TV as a gift. Check out the video below to see what other hot items Mr. Leshock scoped out while wandering our showroom, and if you’re in our area, feel free stop by and see them for yourself.
The new XBOX One is poised to take the gaming world by storm!
Microsoft has just announced the newest generation of the XBOX gaming console titled, the XBOX One. First, let’s talk about the guts of the machine. It will have the following goodies:
8 Core CPU
8 GB System Memory
500 GB HDD
Blu-ray Drive (finally!)
802.11n Wireless with Wi-Fi Direct
The look and design of the system itself is that of an all black feature and features a two-tone finish with both glossy and matte. The Blu-ray disc and gaming drive will be slot-loading and changing between your console and live TV will be seamless. There will also be voice-activate features. Simply saying “XBOX On”, will turn your console on and “XBOX, watch TV”, will turn on your TV.
The emphasis is not only on a powerful gaming performance, but an all-inclusive spectrum to your game playing habits. For instance, Microsoft states, “Achievements ill become dynamic and changing. They tell your personal story of how you play, not what you’ve done.”
There is some grumbling among the gaming communities over the following features: it isn’t backwards compatible, and the possibility that used games will no longer work. Microsoft hasn’t yet fully explained their “used game” policy, but we are sure it will get fleshed out by release date which will be Q$ just in time for the holidays.
