Come Experience The Largest Samsung TV: The 75″ LED 9000 Series

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

Courtesy: Engadget

Tomorrow, August 10th 2012,  Abt will be premiering Samsung’s brand new 75″ LED 9000 Series Smart TV from 6 pm – 8 pm on our showroom floor (1200 N Milwaukee Ave, Glenview, IL, 60025).  Originally debuted alongside Space Shuttle Enterprise, this Samsung flat screen TV is longer, corner-to-corner, than any one of the USA Olympic ‘Fab 5′ Gymnasts, and is only as thick as the gold medals that they won.

It’s not just a pretty face either, this baby’s got brains to match.  Besides being 3D-ready, the 9000 Series has a built-in web camera that retracts when not in use, comes with four pairs of 3D glasses, and has all the Smart features including Smart Interaction for enabling gesture and voice controls. TV viewers can use Smart Content for sharing media across a variety of devices, enjoy a new Angry Birds app which let’s users control the game entirely with gesture controls, and more.

Again, the event begins at 6PM CST and will last until 8PM CST in the Atrium at Abt Electronics in Glenview. If you’re interested in attending you must RSVP . All attendees will also be eligible to enter to win a 46″ Samsung LED 8000 Series Smart TV and there will be a Samsung technical concierge on-hand to answer questions and offer demonstrations of the LED 9000.

Incredible Dark Knight Themed Theater Only Costs $2 Million!

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

One of my favorite parts of our store are the specialized home theaters.  I am such a huge fan of movies, that one of my dreams is to have an all-out, super themed home theater in my home.  The designers at Elite Home Theater Seating were taken to the task to create a theater with a Batman: The Dark Knight theme.  And boy, did they deliver.

Big Changes in Abt’s Atrium

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

Other than our huge aquarium in the middle of our store, customers never get enough of our Atrium.  Often confused as a separate part of Abt, our Atrium plays hosts to specialized stores and kitchen design ideas.  We recently have been making some renovations sure to please our customers.

We like to decorate based on the seasons and upcoming holidays and the workers from our flower company did a complete overhaul this week.  We lost a few trees that have been growing in our atrium since we opened this location almost 10 years ago.  Our atrium is like a garden and has seen the growth of many plants, flowers and trees throughout the seasons, but now, since fall is around the corner, other flowers were traded in for more seasonal colors and styles.

New Stores

The Apple store is opening up in our atrium and will be bigger and better than before.  Borrowing from the traditional Apple stores seen around the world, look for a great selection of Apple products as well as a clean designed store dedicated to all things Apple.

Abt is also taking a leap in a different direction with the selling of mattresses.  Our showroom has been worked on tirelessly, and we anticipate it opening very soon.  keep an eye out on the blog and for updates and news about the current events at Abt!

Have You Ever Seen a Laptop Float?

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Has Dell been practicing witchcraft lately?  It sure seems that way if you have seen our floating Dell Ultrabook in our Atrium this week.  The new Ultrabook by Dell is so light, there’s no need for magic to keep it afloat.  Only a couple strong magnets will do the trick.

Weighing in at just over 3 1/2 lbs, the Dell Ultrabook is packed with incredible features.  A 13-inch screen is powered by an HD graphics card making all your favorite movies and computer games come to life.  With the built-in hard drive of 500GB of memory and expandable RAM slots.  Top it all off with HDMI connectivity and you have a portable powerhouse of entertainment.

So stop by our atrium and see the Dell floating Ultrabook.  Be careful when you see it to not bump into it too hard or you might break the, magnetic field.

Garmin Makes Vast Improvements in their GPS App for iOS

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

Garmin is upgrading its Navigon navigation app for iPhones and iPads.  Version 2.1 of the Navigon app adds such features as Google Street View and a Cockpit in-app purchase that displays driving data while looking at the map.

The new version also improves start-up time and map-rendering speed.  It also speeds up zooming and panning in map view, and it enhances graphics for display on the iPad’s Retina display. An option called manual route blocking lets users manually block off certain roads or highways or sections of a map to avoid them while driving.  Current owners of the app can expect the upgrades to be completely free.

America’s First TV Station hits the airwaves, July 2nd 1928

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

On July 2nd, 1928 W3XK became the first American TV station, to begin broadcasting from suburban Washington, D.C.

Originally called “radiovision” signals were broadcast by Charles Francis Jenkins who was trying to devise a way to transmit pictures over the airwaves.  He sold several thousand receiving sets, and, after receiving permission to start an experimental TV transmitting station, aired programming five nights a week until until it was ultimately shut down in 1932.

Military Looking to further Secure On-Field Smartphones

Monday, June 25th, 2012

What do you use your smartphone for?  Checking your e-mail, ordering movie tickets, updating your Facebook?  Well, the brave men and women in our armed forces use their smartphones just as much, but for different reasons.  They are loaded with contacts, location information and all kinds of military-grade applications, so it can be disastrous for a soldier to lose a mobile device or have its data leak out unwittingly.  What if one was lost or stolen?

For those gamers out there that still have a passion for handheld console gaming devices, Nintendo has a treat for you: The New Nintendo 3DS XL.  Nintendo Direct, featuring a 4.88-inch top screen and a 4.18-inch bottom screen. The new hardware adds over an inch to the current 3DS’ display, and will also come with a 4GB SD card.

Priced at $199.99, this new 3DS is more suitable for video content like Netflix and the 3D Nintendo Video service.  Nintendo has been slipping in hand held console sales the last few years but will this new, larger unit be enough to energize the line’s initially slow-growing sales?  What are your thoughts?
